Terrible service, unable to return calls or deal with the simplest matters.

May 8, 2017
Avoid at all costs. I went in for counselling as I was approx. $25000 in debt, had never missed a payment and owned a house. They recommended a consumer proposal and I wound up filing for $22000. I had to pay back $19500 although told I was paying .54 on the dollar of my debt to my creditors. That's a difference of $6000 in 'filing fees'. First and second mistake, I didn't get a 2nd opinion or ask for a clear breakdown of where that $19500 was going towards. I just wanted help. I found out later from another financial advisor I should have taken equity out of my house and could have avoided the proposal altogether. That wasn't presented as an option. I was told to sell my house and use the funds to pay off the proposal. Now I just found out part of that $6000 was $170 for two MANDATORY counselling sessions I had to go to. These consisted of basically given a photocopied 'how to budget' booklet and arguing about my monthly budget. I learned more watching one 30 minute show of 'Til Debt Do Us Part' than those sessions. Eg; it was recommended I put $50/month into the 'charitable donations' section as they wanted it to appear I had a monthly surplus as close to zero as possible to my creditors. Another red flag. I asked for a balance owing last summer and was told $1800. When i went to make my final payment, I was told another 8000 was still owed. When I went to make my final payment last week, again the number was wrong by over $1500. I escalated this up to their head office but again, despite many very clear requests to have a breakdown (or receipt) of exactly where that $19500 I paid went to to, I was given the run around. I will be fiiing a complaint with the Superintendent of Bankruptcy This has been a complete joke from Day One. I made a huge mistake and recommend everyone to avoid doing the same thing I did.
