I travel for work frequently and have to rent cars often. This is my first time renting from Budget. My initial experience was okay, made reservations online, agent seemed nice etc. When we were checking the car for damages, my brother-in-law noticed a small damage on the windshield. We showed it to the agent and he said "it's nothing". We told him to mark it on his paperwork anyways. I signed off and we went on our merry ways. When I returned the car a few days later, a different agent pointed to the same damage. I explained the story, he said he has to document it and will check with his co-worker to verify. About an hour later we get a voicemail that they "determined" it is a new damage. According to their manager, I have to wait until they review previous rental agreements to check if the damage was documented before I rented the car. If not, I would be liable. Problems/red flags 1. The initial agent dismissed our concern when we showed him the damage. 2. The exact damage that was "nothing" a few days earlier is now a candidate for a claim. 3. The second agent and manager accepted the story of their coworker. 4. They will "research" and determine whether the damage is new (despite us telling them that it was there prior to us renting). I, as a customer, do not have any power regarding the outcome. I returned the car in the same condition as when I picked it up. I am supposed to sit around and wait for them to play judge, juror and executioner. What is the probability these same people will resolve the issue fairly? Advice: Do not rent from this location (or Budget in case they have questionable business practice) If you do, take pictures/video.
