Despite the multiple amount of horrid reviews, my experience with the YVR Budget Rent-a-Car was actually not too bad. All it took was a little bit of patience and understanding, and everything else went as smooth as silk. Jason was a delight to deal with, promptly explaining the necessary details involved with renting a vehicle (this was my first time), and when I declined the $39/day liability coverage package, he kindly explained why it was important to add it on. I was a bit disappointed when he rented me a Ford Flex instead of the Ford Explorer I wanted (he said there were no Ford Explorers available at the moment) but the website did say Ford Explorer OR SIMILAR, so it was to be expected. The wait was a little long as well, since we had to wait for the vehicle to be returned and inspected, but other than that everything went splendidly. This shall now be my go-to place for my car rental needs. Edit: I came a second time to rent a vehicle (again of the Ford Explorer or similar type), and the employee that dealt with us was even better than the first. Sam, I cannot thank you enough for your patience, understanding, and excellent customer service. While they were originally going to loan me the Ford Flex again, I kindly insisted that I would like to give the Explorer a try this time, and Sam made sure that the next Explorer that came in would be mine. When he had sorted everything out and he had finished dealing with us, he kept glancing at the door for our vehicle, ready to bolt outside and claim the next Explorer that comes in. He even gave us a complimentary bottle of water while we waited! After getting our vehicle, we drove home to grab our luggage and realized along the way that it would be better to use our family car for our U.S. road trip rather than pay for a rental. We returned to Budget an hour later, fully intending to apologize and pay for a day's use, but Sam, who was pleasantly surprised to see us and took over the other employee who was dealing with us the second time around, completely understood and gave us a full refund, not even charging us for the time and the gas we've used on the vehicle. Truly, truly spectacular service. We will be back. Thank you so much, Budget!

Trust me. Don't think of renting a car at Budget Rent a Car Vancouver International Airport. I reserved a car via an online agency for 11 days. The quote is CAD$5XX. The deal seems good. However, when you walk in the story would be totally different. They will tell you to buy an insurance for CAD39 per day and then to tell you you need a winter tire for CAD40 per day. Additional drive needs CAD10 per day. Most expensive of all, they would tell you the total tax is above 30% because there is an airport tax. If you don't believe it, try it.

Extremely deceptive service, I would recommend never using this location for any rentals to anyone. Just recently rented a car for a 1 day trip, which was great. However upon receiving the car from the rental desk we proceeded to walk out by ourselves with the rental agreement to check the car (no agent accompanied us), the car was white and had just been washed. We did a quick inspection and did not notice anything to report. Now, less than 24hrs later and 100km of total usage we return the car only to have the agent quickly notice 1 small rock mark in the windshield, would this have been winter I might not have been so startled but the roads (only highway) are perfect and no weather was encountered. The agent explained that we are now responsible for the rock ding, I said "you must be kidding, that had to have been there prior to us receiving. the car". *interesting also is there was White printing in the lower drivers side section "RCK"* The desk agent gave us a form to sign and explained that we had a couple options: 1. wait 2-3 weeks while they investigate 2. have our insurance cover the damage 3. pay $235 to have the issue solved. If you have read this review this far you might shake your head as we did, everything seem like a "fraud". Lastly, I do rent very often from various Budget locations, and have never had a bad experience. Budget YVR is not to be used!! please be aware.

Pros: you can get a discount if you book with a TD credit card Cons: poor service, and there's always a hidden cost that doubles the price! I booked a car a month in advance for s few day visit to Vancouver, and called beforehand to make sure everything would go through smoothly. Only when I arrived to pick up the car did they let me know that for my type of driving license, I have to pay some $20 extra per day! I haven't had this much trouble with any other car rental in the city.

Rented October 13 - 15 - booked online and pick-up at the counter was smooth, car was ready to go (Chevy Cruze, 10,000 km) and paperwork was all very clear. No issues returning the car either - took 5 minutes and the receipt and payment were processed. It seems like there have been issues in the past with this location but I could not find any whatsoever - would rent again from them.
