It should be possible to give no star- they really deserved non. We hired a car in Split and we were informed wrong about the local rental company and its policies. We ended up with signing a full car insurance by the local shop. The info was on a white board at the office wall- so the guy didn't made up stuff here. It was an even better and cheaper offer concerning insurance. The trouble started when I wrote a message to rental-cars about this. The first guy was reasonable and friendly and offered me a refund of our insurance payments by rental-cars. If that had happened they would have received quite a lot more stars here. But it didn't. It costs us 2 weeks and a number of mails to finally get our refund. Always different people with different strategies to hale out time. I had to send the same papers in twice, the had no details of my credit card and so on. After all a bad experience.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! This is the first review I’ve ever left for anything but it is truly needed! Rental cars agreed to cancel my booking with a full refund, that was never in dispute. The problems started when they refused to issue the refund to my new bank instead of my old one, with which the account was closed and therefore I could not receive the refund! They bluntly refuse to issue the refund in any other way. My old bank personally rang them to tell them they must issue the refund which they over the phone refused to do. And citizens advice advised me to take them to trading standards calling there actions “unreasonable” , which I have now done. I made them aware of this 7 days ago... have I got a refund? No! I would advise to avoid this company. I used a different, more reputable company and had the trip of a lifetime with no hassle. Avoid these cowboys.

Terrible. Really terrible. Paid a £60 booking online. Dealer wanted to charge 5 times more. Said no and didn't take the booking. The dealer told me just call RentalCars and they will give you your money back... They don't. They took my free money. Best customer service ever?

I rented the car online and went through all the points on the add. Paid the monies and received my confirmation email. In the email it said bring your drivers licence, booking and named credit card to collect. This is the 1st mention of credit card that noticed in the booking process... I called the help centre as I do not have a credit card (I think if you don't have the funds, don't buy it!) To enquire what options there are if you don't use credit cards. I have had to cancel my order as there is no option to rent if you don't use credit. I even offer to pay the holding monies in debit form on the day with the view of being refunded when returned in order. If damaged, you already have the funds. I feel making people have a credit card in order to rent a car when I have all the funds and more in real currency is at the very least unfair and discrimination against my belief in a credit free world. Whilst I appreciate most people are ok with spiralling debt cards, I am not and save for my purchases. This may seem old school to some but I am greatful for this lesson taught by my grandparents and currently enjoy a debt free life. I do question the amount of lost business from this process and even question the legality of refusing legal tender equivalent to the amount required. I do look forward to hearing from you on the above matter. James. Non-credit crusader!

I have used Rentalcars and some of their earlier trading names for many years but never will again. I had a problem with a rental from Nice airport and when I asked their support line for help they promised to sort it out and ring me straight back. I am still waiting ! Will never use them again as they continually return my emails of complaint saying the email address doesn't exist yet it is the address on their website. Please take my advice and rent your holiday car from another company.
