I booked for a car a week in advance. When booking, I had chosen the option for a mid-size car, Toyota Corolla or similar. There were other options, such as vans and SUVs, but I did not need such, so I booked what I needed. When I arrived at Halifax, tired from being up all night and waiting at the airport/travelling on a flight, I reached their table. I informed the person at the table I had made a reservation. The first thing that he tried to do was upsell. If you pay $15 you can get so and so car, if you pay $40 you can get this car. I was getting agitated, as I had booked the car in advance, to save money, and to ensure I would have the car of my choice, and know how much I am paying up front. He kept trying to sell me another car. I said I don't want to pay anymore than what I had reserved. He said the only car he had for the range I had booked was a Ford Transit. This was definitely not what I had wanted. I had asked for a car, 4 door sedan. As it was only 2 of us that would be sitting in it, and we did not have any extra baggage, or anything big to put in the car. He refused, saying that he could either offer me a van or the Transit. Left with no choice, we had to take the Transit. This was beyond ridiculous. We had reserved the car in advance, to ensure we would get what we wanted, and we did not get any such thing, or even similar. The rep was not even helpful enough to give us a sedan, and waive the extra charge, because it was a mistake on their part. He even tried to sell us insurances, that we had denied when we booked it. He spent so much time going through it, and trying to scare us to get them. For travelers, this is annoying, we want to just get the car we booked and rest.

Nice car rental!

Rented a jeep for 12 days. The process of renting the vehicle went very smooth. The rates offered were much more reasonable compared to local competitors.

Reserved a sedan and was given a gas-guzzling suv. Only thing the staff would do to help the situation was try to up sell me to an even bigger vehicle. Nobody was around at their office when I came to return vehicle despite having posted hours stating otherwise. Would have just dropped the keys but did not trust this sketchy company to not add on extra charges without paying in person. Do not recommend.

Check in was fast and the young man at the Thrifty/Dollar counter was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I was given an upgrade at no extra cost. I had read negative reviews about this Thrifty location using a bait and upgrade then overcharging clients prior to my booking for Sept 2-9 - hmmm seems hard to believe, I'm not calling any of the reviewers liars - please understand, however since I have always had good experiences with Thrifty - I didn't hesitate to book- I will add that in Toronto it is a seemingly common practice for competitors to post horrible reviews ( usually the reviewers have 1 or 2 reviews posted - a warning sign IMHO ). I will be updating this review after I return my 2018 Jeep Cherokee on Sept 9th-. So far, all is exceptional. I'm very pleased. I pulled out of the poorly lit parking garage and immediately took a video of a few scratches on the door and fender in the sunlight which is the norm for me every rental I pick up. ( UPDATED SEPT 10/18 ) Rental return was fast and easy - I am rebooking with this Thrifty location for Sept 29 - Oct. 1/18. Special thanks to Jean Michelle who also checked my car out upon arrival in Halifax- and Erin in the return section. Top notch staff, great immaculately clean vehicles and best pricing in Halifax International (Stanfield) Airport. I highly recommend.
