Our rides this weekend in Fernie were all great, the driver is hilarious and they were always on time and didn't give away our cab to the bachelorette party that was waiting outside the bar to be picked up.

The taxi driver, the only taxi driver in fernie, his name is Frank, completely ripped myself and my friends off. We called and said we had 7 people that needed a cab, from the riverside condos, to the fernie brewing company. Frank told us that he’d be 15 minutes, and then finally showed up 40 minutes later. He arrived in a maxivan, and told us that because there was no meter for cabs, that it would be $5 a person from our condo, to the brewery; for a total of $35. When I paid with a $50 dollar bill, Frank’s immediate question was “how much do you want back?” Well Frank, if the bill is $35, and I give you a $50, then you should give me my change, and if I feel like a tip is deserved, then I will give it to you? (Duh) We continue to use Kootney Taxi(because again, to emphasize, there are no other options) to return to the condo from the brewery, and then again around 10:30 at night, to go into downtown(once again, being told that it’s $5 per person, because there’s no meter) Fast forward to the end of the night, we need to get back to the condo, so we leave the bar. Would you believe that frank(once again, he’s the only cab driver in the city) shows up in a minivan this time. The minivan sits 7 people, and lo and behold, it is metered. The ride home, was $11.70. For the same ride, from the same place, with the same amount of people, 3 hours earlier, in an unmetered van, we were charged $40, and expected to tip on top of that outrageous fee. If there if a metered taxi in fernie, that means there’s some sort of oversight from the local city government. Don’t get taken advantage of by a shady person. Kooteney Taxi(Frank) is a scam artist, who will take advantage of you. Protect yourself, and demand a metered taxi (Because even though you’ll be told it’s not available, it is, and there should be no other option)
