In their 90s and living independently in their condo, my parents began to decline a year ago. I live half way across the country and didn’t know how to proceed. A series of conversations with Lynn at Home Instead provided me different options, which I took a couple of months to explore. I decided to begin having Home Instead provide occasional support for my parents. Resistant parents made this a challenge but slowly, thanks to the planned, patient, persistent approach, my parents came to welcome and accept more support.
Over the past year, my parents declined steeply, leading to extended hospital stays and moves into nursing homes. As if these transitions were not enough, dealing with the bureaucracy and management of underfunded public institutions provides unique challenges. At every step of this journey Brent and Lynn’s knowledge, management experience, contacts, and interventions have been unfailingly helpful. All the while, the team of caregivers supporting my parents have been wonderful, providing the dignified, conscientious support everyone wants for their aging parents.
