If you love your elders you will not put them here

Resources for LTC across the country are stressed beyond their limits. The system in place cannot sustain the demands,,, the wait for a bed anywhere near Guelph is approximately 2 years. LaPointe Fisher is an older building , and has a low grade for reputation. That is unfortunate. My God father was recently offered a bed there. There are dedicated staff that have been there for years, most of them really do care for residents and they cope amazingly well with a poor design of a building and sometimes lack of staffing support. We can always say the biggest room in ANY house is the room for improvement. But I am thankful for the care that my loved one is currently receiving. I hope I can also be a part of the team to improve concerns and make care better. We are all responsible for that. They system needs an entire overhaul , this has an impact on the little places like LaPointe Fisher. But in the meantime I think of my loved on at a cottage and he is in the city he calls home...

Very little positive care with overly medicated (sedated) residents. Saw a nurse give same medication to every resident. Learned that sedation can be common in some LTC homes to modify residents' behaviour. PSW was rough, abrupt and unprofessional. Overall very poor end of life experience. Avoid the palliative room - the door was closed and family member forgotten about. Do appropriate research to choose your family member's last home or choose hospice.

When taking care of my grandmother the nurses were great. Very helpful.

The nurses and support resource are horrible! Cruel to client and all!
