First of all I would like to say that the people who have made "good" reviews about this facility are liars. They work for the company that manages the building. The Safire buildings are all the same. Very little care from the owners or individuals who manage them. These employees haven't actually worked in this facility. They don't know what it is like on a daily basis inside the facility. I have worked in Emerald South and Emerald North and I regret working in both. They make "renovations" and think that solves all the issues. It just puts a band aid on a leaking faucet. I feel awful for the residents and the staff. The residents cannot get the proper care if you don't have enough staff. The staffing has always been an issue in these facilities. They would rather hire agency nurses and aides who aren't there daily. But I blame management. New administrators and director of nurses every few months. If you can't keep an administrator in the facility what does that say about the work place environment. If these residents and family member want good care they need to move them elsewhere. The staff should also go elsewhere. I was asked to help HR file paperwork in a closet size room that has mold and mildew everywhere. I was told to just put gloves on and a mask. Many issues in the facility. I made the decision to leave and couldn't be happier with that decision.

The most horrid place imaginable. When we first went to see our brother (who was placed here by his "loving sister"; she's as much to blame for his death as this place's negligence) he was lying half naked in his bed, which was soaked with urine. The patient in the next bed had an open wound on his leg that stank sickeningly, he said it hadn't been changed in 5 days and no one would help him. I immediately changed my brother's bed sheets, after hunting down other nurses and aides who never showed up, and also alert d the staff about the patient in the next bed, who was crying about his leg. No one helped. The room's bathroom was overflowing with feces and toilet paper and was unusable. I felt like puking the entire time I was there, and for each subsequent visit. In two months, the staff starved my brother, who was also sick with cancer. They were supposed to help him eat, but no one ever did. He was never clean, always lying in his own waste. He was never put in physical therapy so he could get strong enough to get up (which he never had the strength for anyway because they starved him). It was the most horrifying experience and, because the "loving sister" was in charge, we could do nothing legally except watch him get worse and worse, and finally die. Nothing living deserves to be treated in this manner. I curse every single person who was involved in his negligence and death. I hope you all rot in hell.

This place killed my 101 year old grandmother. She was refusing to eat and because of that they completely skipped her and wouldn't offer her any food. She was suppose to be on purrie diet and wasn't until I had to have the nutiritionalist to review her case after a month of not eating. Aids were always short. Rude disrespectful and bad mouths the place constantly. If you HATE your loved one then send them there. If u love them please dont because of cost. They are cheaper but horriable.

Ruth Murray died here. She was housed with a person who had a known history of violence and he beat her to death. William Strasner also died here; he fell out of a window trying to escape. Staff did not make sure the safety screws stayed on the window even though they knew he tended to take them off.

Wonderful and caring staff. Excellent rehabilitation and activities program. Safe and clean environment.
