Not suitable for mobile dementia residents

Pioneer Elder Care (Vine Street) boasts a great resident / caregiver ratio. What they don't tell you is that the PSWs and staff do EVERYTHING - laundry, meal prep, feeding residents, cleaning rooms, dishes, etc. This leaves little time for resident care. The care is adequate if your loved one is immobile and you are willing to have them sit in their wheelchair in front of the television all day. If your loved one is mobile and has dementia, they don't want to deal with them wandering, not to mention that there are no activities to stimulate the residents during the day. They required us to hire extra care on top of the regular fees because they couldn't care for our loved one who was always walking and moving. Their solution was to secure him into a chair unless there was a family member, friend or a hired helper there with him. This facility is definitely NOT capable of caring for mobile residents. Our loved one was also kicked out with little warning. Zero stars!

This is a beautiful facility. It is not an Alzheimer/dementia facility. The staff is undertrained and lacks the skills necessary to handle the ever challenging obstacles...poor communication and even worse problem solving...unless you count kicking out your elderly loved one with no warning..leaving you helpless and in pure chaos. We should have pursued negligent discharge...however our family was left struggling to find placement for our dad...not to mention they left a urinary tract infection go untreated and dismissed dad without medication. As long as your loved one is quiet and does not move..they will be fine here...but if they have dementia or Alzheimers..stay aware and save yourself the heartache.
