UPDATE: Sept 2020: After 5.5years the garage door internal tube springs have snapped inside the tube. Only 5.5yrs!!!
What you want to know, and you probably don't, is that the garage door manufacture Wayne Dalton do not make the tubes and springs anymore!
This would probably explain why Mattamy installed these particular garage doors. Cheaping out on a product that would be become discontinued in a few years is classic penny-pinching at it's finest. I shouldn't really expect anything else.
We are now scrambling to find old stock of the springs, if we can't find them, we are going to have to buy the materials to have an external spring system built. Having the springs on the outside of the tube is an obvious safety hazard, that we may have to live with.
2019: I’m currently renovating our 3 year old Mattamy home. Nothing better than ripping out the POOR quality construction and finishes of your Mattamy home, and replacing it with the care and attention that you should’ve got. We’ll be fixing our home for a couple of years, the biggest issue is the floor structure.
After 3 years of documentation and continual requests, Mattamy have washed their hands with it.
For the heads up, if you do somehow end up with a Mattamy home and you want ceramic tile in your kitchen/powder room/entrance!? Well, make sure, research and demand, that as per the Tile & Terrazzo Association the maximum spacing between your joists should be at 15.9”. Mine are at 21.5” (saves Mattamy money during construction) which creates huge deflection that the tile can’t handle. It is the reason our grout and tiles continually crack/break/crumble after 3 years; and continues to crack/break/crumble even after 2 differing companies have installed the grout. It’s not the labour and materials, it’s the structure, and it never had a chance of being a success with ceramic tile.
Big avoid. Don’t make the same mistakes I did.
