We moved into our home in Meadow Lakes in North Ridgeville in April 2018. It is now 4 months later and we still can't put in a lawn or landscaping. The final grade on our property failed its inspection and I can't get KHOV to return a phone call or email.
During the first big rain after we moved in, our basement, which we paid handsomely to have finished with a bathroom, was taking in water from the outside. Not long after, our basement took in water from a separate location.
Our experience with the Design Center was atrocious. Jocelyn was not only oblivious to the fact that exterior lights are upgraded when you select the stone exterior upgrade, but she was absolutely steadfast in her ignorance when her errors were discovered. We also had an expectation of interior lights, based on the books presented to us. Months later, KHOV redesigned the pages in the books and used these new photos to prove we will get what they now show in the book, as opposed to what we were shown during our appointment. This behavior absolutely infuriated me and KHOV did not seem to care in the least.
Throughout the construction of our home, we had to be the ones to catch their mistakes. The wrong style of garage door was installed and KHOV was surprised when my wife and I pointed it out. The wiring for an outside flood light was brought through the drywall in the living room near the fireplace. I'm no construction expert, but I think the wires should have been dealt with when the exterior was sided and the drywallers had to bring them through rather than bury them in the wall. Either way, another example of a lack of supervision of the job. A week before closing, there is a final walkthrough to catch last minute items. There are multiple places we noted during this appointment, and were marked with tape, yet a week later the tape was removed and the item was not corrected. I still have unpainted spots in my master bathroom. Other touch-ups made the situation worse than it was. It was my mistake to give KHOV my "homeless" date, the latest possible move-in date, because that magically became my closing date and I simply could do nothing about the open items with no time left.
My experience overall has been a great source of frustration, mainly due to the seemingly complete lack of accountability. Since KHOV won't return my emails asking about the correction of the defects causing the failed inspection (over four months after we moved in), or return my call, I figured this might get a response of some sort.
edit: 9/21/2018
It is now two weeks since our failed final grade inspection and 5 months since we moved in. Despite KHOV saying a reinspection appointment has been scheduled for this week (today is Friday), KHOV has still not even corrected the problems causing the first failed inspection. If they simply corrected the problem with the grade, I could have moved forward with a landscaping and a lawn, but no. It's too much to ask despite my best efforts. We moved into our home in April and KHOV has now made it unlikely that we can have a lawn until next spring. Houses in the next phase of the development already have green grass and landscaping and we are still waiting for something that can be done in probably less than an hour.
