We drove over an hour today for a hearing test with Kristina Hill for my son who just turned 4 this month. I read on her profile she has worked with children for years. I found childcare for my youngest and I took my son out of school to come down to Owen Sound. We gave up a lot to be here, and I’m completely disgusted with the service we received. Kristina was short, abrupt, and I was very insulted with how she talked to a 4 year old.
We did the first test where he repeated the words back and it went fine. The next test, he pulled out an ear plug and she came in the booth, put it back in and stated “don’t do that again” in a very stern voice. I was shocked that this is someone whos profile states she provides “compassionate hearing health care“. She started again and after 1-2 minutes my son said this one is bothering me and took it out. She looked at him and said “are you done? Okay you’re done.” Comes in and states test is over. I ask okay what next? She tells me to make an apt with McKenna and she’ll send the infomation she collected to him.
I was very confused as I walked up l to book an apt. with Dr. McKenna. The lady asked did we need another hearing test. I stated “I don’t know, I hope not, we drove from away to get here and gave up the afternoon” she went to check for me and came back with the response “you will probably have to come back she didn’t get enough information but go see Dr. McKenna first”
At this point I’m completely irritated as she did not tell me this. So I went in and asked if we could try again. I couldn’t afford to take another day off work to come down, as I would be taking the day off to see Dr. McKenna in Walkerton.
She reluctantly let us try again not before stating if he were to pull them out again and break it I would be paying out of my pocket. (Understandable, but he didn’t rip them out he just took it out of his ear lightly, I think this was super dramatic of her, especially speaking to a 4 year old. Someone who works with kids should know how to talk to one to get them to complete the task) When we came back in to do it for a second time my son asked “how long does it take?”, instead of being encouraging and helpful, she stated in her rude tone “as long as you make it take, it could take a long time if you don’t help”.
Anyone who works with kids should know they can’t logically comprehend that. She could have helped the matter by saying “not long buddy, I promise, it will be over super quick and you can go home”.
He did the beep testing without struggle and then when she placed the black headset on his head (he did not touch anything) he stated “this is hurting me”. She came in, took it off, and said “the test is over”.
I left the office in disbelif. This is no way to treat a patient, let alone a 4 year old child. Gabe has had at least 7+ hearing tests and I, nor he, has experienced anything like this before. I have always had such a positive experience at this clinic, and think the world of Dr. McKenna, as he put my sons tubes in at 16 months, and we have met with on many occasions. The audiologists in the past have all helped my child through the testing and he always made it to the end. Every other time, they helped the cause, rather than insulting and criticizing. We have never had a problem in the past, but Kristina really left me with a sour taste in my mouth. I will not be taking my child to her agin.
