My husband was extremely reluctant to wear hearing aids. We started this journey in 2006 when an audiologist at UC Davis strongly recommended hearing aids. Mr. Stubborn declined. He had seen too many friends purchase hearing aids and not wear them. In the intervening years he gave a few places a glimpse or attendance at a seminar, but no more. In 2017 we were nearly killed by a freight train he didn't hear approaching.
By 2018, I was desperate and made an appointment at Bloom Hearing in Elk Grove. Somehow, Mr. Stubborn went and met their audiologist. He enjoyed his friendly, personal (Doc wears them too) caring approach and purchased Widex hearing aids, and was I thrilled!
He now has two tiny babies that nestle in his ears. We call them "our tiny miracles." He wears them from the time he steps out of the shower in the morning until he turns in at night. My marriage (and sanity) are on a far better path -- and he can hear a whole lot better. Even the expression on his face has changed from blank or quizzical to normal and relaxed. He laughs at jokes again. Ahhh, life is good.
