Decent products but poor customer experience. Unwelcoming front-end service, and office personnel unwilling to budge. I also doubt I'm getting the full story as I was allowed to enter the warehouse on my first visit, along with another customer. Now I stay behind a small glass window and am only allowed to look at a catalog or small samples, giving a poor representation of the physical product. I am now treated as if I'm an accident waiting to happen (liability). Hilarious given my unassuming appearance as a 5'3" woman. I look like a housewife. Maybe that's the reason. I have already dropped $300 in this shop, and the product is good, but attitude and experience are everything, and the only reason I did buy product was that I found what I needed out on the floor during my first visit. Now I don't have a way to look for what I need. I can get this kind of remote service online. Disappointed. . . Part of material design is the understanding the physical representation of a product. I hope these guys can do better, but my experience today seems to indicate otherwise. Note: In response to the owner about not expecting a big-box retailer. I don't expect a big-box retailer actually, just the customer service you might find in a lumber yard, which I also frequent from time to time. Lumber yards are, incidentally, much more "dangerous" than this metal warehouse. Regardless, attitude is everything. I wish you the best, but the way I was treated on my second and third visit wasn't exactly friendly. This matters, and I am now just ready to buy elsewhere, as I don't want to deal with the hassle. Incidentally, I struck up a nice conversation with a warehouse employee and another customer during my first visit, and I was actually anticipating return for this reason specifically. As someone in architecture, it's great to make connections in the field and know who's working in your city, wherever you meet them. It's also nice to get to know some of the people you are buying from on a more first-name basis, especially the guys actually who actually understand the materials and could advise on the products. It's pretty sad that this interaction was also truncated by company policy.

Great company for specialty metals and regular old sheet stock. The contracting company I work for does a great deal of business with Oakland Metals and customer service & pricing is the best there is. Never actually been to their offices/warehouse before. Never needed to, they supply samples and pricing as needed and ship direct either to my warehouse or job site. I think anyone entering any warehouse/shop area (who does not work at said shop) is a liability for that business and I would not let any pedestrian in mine either.

Being a handyman , steel is not my profession so most of the time I don't know what Type of metal I need for my jobs. They have been very helpful and patient with me and their costs have been lower than other quotes. I will use them again!
