As stories go, this one starts with a young couple that decides it's time to buy a home. They were very excited making this purchase in the summer, I guess that's why they weren't thinking of the furnace in the basement. A slight oversight I suppose, until they went to install the first filter. There was no cold air return, the furnace was just installed months before the purchase, the seller told them that it was new, why think about, right. So, I got the call to come look at it for them to see what could be done to remedy this. I knew as soon as I looked at the furnace and the location of the cold air return on the floor , that this was nothing I could buy at the local hardware store. After a couple of hours of measuring and sketching pictures on paper, I had a handful of diagrams on plain paper, a couple of pictures, of the basement and I went to Southern Tier Custom Fabricators. After a chat with Ian Morrell, president at Southern Tier Custom Fabricators and a couple of questions from him, he says we can fabricate that for you and I will have an estimate of the cost in a couple of days. Excellent I thought, However a couple days later when he called the estimate was for more than the young couple had. So I asked him if he could supply the material needed and I would build it and if that would make it cheaper for them, and again, he called the next day with an affordable quote. I looked at the duct work and my first thought was" what did I get myself into"? Once I started the assembly it went together rather quickly and we had it installed in a matter of 5 hrs. "Wow" and "that's Amazing", was the reaction of the new home-owners. I would like to say "Thank You", to Ian and all the guys who helped out at Southern Tier Custom Fabricators, we built this young couple a cold air return that will "hopefully" last them through the many years to come in their new home. Sincerely, Shane Peterson. Thanks Again. The both of them were in awe.
