Think twice before signing contract

Took our deposit and never showed up to do the job. Refuses to return numerous voicemails. We are being forced to pursue legal action to get our money back. Use great caution before signing a contract and putting money down. We met with Tim in July to discuss refinishing the floors of two rooms in our house. His personality left much to be desired. At worst it was rude, at best it was awkward attempts at inappropriate humor (I.e. asking my teenage daughters on separate occasions if they wanted to talk about boys). Despite that and because of his positive online reviews we signed a contract and gave Tim a check for $400 which he immediately cashed. The work was to be completed the week of August 12. The week before Tim was to do the work I called him to discuss changing the stain color. The conversation did not go well. He accused me of being a “problem child”. He said he would not do the work and would send our deposit back. He has not done so despite numerous attempts at contact.
