Wasn't super happy the last time I was here, it was a quite a few years ago (2014) but it made me never come back. The hair styling school is amazing, I would give them 5 stars in a heart beat, they always did a fantastic job thinning out my hair and styling it. Unfortunately, I wasn't stoked with my last visit to the esthetics half. One of my friends was learning how to do waxing for her program, so I offered to come in a night she was in to let her get some practice. Opted to go for a Brazilian. I'd got a few before and at other college spas so I figured they would all be the same. Signed my sheets, but wasn't forewarned that I would be waxed out in the open in front of everyone, including people that came in to get spa treatments. The facillitator said if I wanted privacy I should go to a real spa. I asked if it would be possible to stop, cut my losses and finish the job somewhere else and save myself the embarrassment, but the facilitator said I had to finish since I had signed a sheet saying I'd complete it, she was rather rude to both students doing the job and yelled at them every 10 mins. Another professor could tell I wasn't comfortable (neither were their guests having to look at me) and moved me out of view and finished it. Based on the awkwardness of it all, I haven't gone back since, which frustrates me because the students did a good job. Wouldn't recommend ever coming here if you want to relax though, it's a pretty hostile environment.

The haircut was fine as I only got a trim, but was charged $20 extra for having "thick hair" although the haircut didn't take more than an hour, which is what I was paying for. I've never experienced this at any other salon, even when my haircut has taken longer than it was supposed to. I ended up having to pay $80-$90 for a haircut that was supposed to be $60, and I do not think that the haircut was worth this amount. The service was ok, but I really think that customers should be warned about this before getting their hair cut. My friend who has thinner hair than me was also charged extra for having thick hair although her hair took an hour as well, so I am not sure the reasoning behind these extra charges.

I brought in a photo of my sisters gel nails that I wanted to have done. The male owner was dismissive and tried to talk me into getting somthing that’s easier to do (what I wanted to have done involved two colours) when I told him I’d like to have what was done in the photo he did not respond and was very rough with my hands when taking off my nail polish. He then made a comment saying “this is going to cost more that’s for sure” at that point I had enough and left. I went to angel nails which is only a couple of blocks away on princess street and they did exactly what I wanted no questions asked. Will never be going back to this nail place again!

You wrote a review for CHIC Hair and Esthetics Centre - MOVED 2 minutes ago 12/9/2017 I was in Kingston because my kids go to Queens' and it was a last minute decision to come. I needed to get some basic maintenance done.... hair cut, brows, pedicure, manicure - and found CHIC online because it was downtown near my hotel. What a pleasant surprise! this was a LARGE and LOVELY hair styling & spa place. They were very busy with local clients, but because of their fabulous online booking service, I was able to select every thing I wanted done, and 'the system' found an optimal time so that I got it all done in under 2 hours. And that was at 10 pm sitting in an airport! The stylist was an American 'transplant' to Kingston, the esthetician local, and their relaxing banter, the lovely old house with wooden floors and fireplaces in all the upstairs rooms and a good coffee/ cappuccino bar made for a very pleasant Saturday morning. I wish my salon back in the city had all these great features! Highly recommended for parents of Queen's students in town for a quick visit, and anyone else who finds themselves in Kingston.

Beyond loved the work the hair dresser did. She fixed my super botched dye job I got done elsewhere. She is phenomenal! Will be going back!

I've always had great haircuts from the barbers here. Atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming and prices are great.

The best place in the city of Kingston. If you need esthetics, hair care or just want to be pampered for the day...Sylvia's Studio is the place to visit. The staff are great and the owner is a wonderful lady who is professional and qualified, you will go away satisfied.

This is a great salon! I get a gorgeous cut here for my curly hair, low maintenance, and I always get compliments after I'm here.
