Tom Powell Painting is the BEST in Amador County and possibly Northern California. We've lived in our Lindal cedar home for twenty years and this is the third time we've had it bleached and stained. I was reasonably happy with the painters I used the prior two times and one of them has been selected "Best" in Amador County. However, after meeting Tom I decided to have him do the work for us this time and I have to say, the other painters we've used pale by comparison. In the future, Tom is our one and only painter. Having built our home and several out buildings, we have had a great deal of experience working with contractors in our county. Tom Powell is by far the most professional and responsible contractor we've worked with to date. He showed up with his crew on the day and time promised and worked hard every day until the job was done. He double-bleached wood when necessary and managed to bring to life areas of the house that had badly aged due to sun and weather damage. He even had his team wash second-story windows for us while they were up on the ladders removing the plastic sheeting after the house was sprayed. Unbelievable! I am not a relative and, prior to this recent experience, was not a friend. Having worked with so many contractors, I usually go into a project like this with with a pessimistic attitude, expecting a certain amount of disappointment. Dishonest. Fraudulent. Poor quality. Damaged our home. Overcharged. False claims. We just received, after 18 months of stress and trials with Ed and Lorie Linderman, a Stipulation Award for damages related to the September 2015 contract for painting our home. The award was determined after a complaint was filed with the Contractor's Licensing Board, an investigation took place that included written and verbal statements from both parties, and critically, the boards Industry Expert - a painting contractor as well - found the same issues (including painting 66 brand new hinges on the doors - -22 in total - we had just purchased and installed) of sloppy workmanship, unfulfilled contractual items, horrible customer service that included sarcasm, excuses, blaming others, and blocked all our phones and e-mail to avoid dealing with us. In fact, the Linderman's went so far as to present a photo - doctored to appear as our garage with doors stacked in their attempt to prove doors were all taken off and they could not have gotten paint on them. Only problem - it was NOT our garage and when actual images were presented and confirmed, any trust or support of their protests fell flat. BUYER BEWARE. There are many quality contractors that do their business well and satisfy their clients. A good or great job is rarely the absence of items needing attention. It is how those issues and the accompanying respect for a client that makes the grade. LINDERMAN PAINTING FAILED IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. Years in the industry are not a measurement of quality. And if your home is not NEW CONSTRUCTION (much easier than older homes - we learned after the fact this is the bulk of Linderman's business) run! The time, attention, PREPARATION is critical. It doesn't cost more but it does require a service committed to doing the work properly. This is the only negative review I have ever given in over 30 years of hiring contractors. The same for my wife. We don't want anyone to experience ANY of the problems we did.
