I've been attending this school for over a year and a half now and I've seen steady and continuous improvement learning from Master Pham. Master Pham has a lot of passion, knowledge, and skill in wing chun. If you want to learn authentic wing chun, I highly recommend coming to this school.

Before I started my search that led me to Master Kiet Pham, I decided that I wanted to find a teacher who learned the entire art directly from a disciple of Ip Man, and therefore has the key of knowledge to show me an entire art as it was handed down from Ip Man to his teacher. I wanted someone who has an eye for detail and would catch all my errors, and correct me. Someone who lives and breathes Chinese martial arts, and sees beyond what his teacher taught him, and therefore has an interest to look deeper into the art of Wing Chun. And someone who is pragmatic about Wing Chun in today's world of Martial Arts, and therefore has a view about how to apply it. Someone who has taken Wing Chun and created a bridge to other Martial Arts, without modifying Wing Chun. I wanted a teacher who would show me the truth of Wing Chun, in all it's colours. I can say with certainty, I found this all in Master Kiet Pham.

I have been living in Toronto for 14 years. I am now preparing the leave the city permanently. There are many things I will miss. But as I prepare to leave, I have only one real regret. That regret is that I did not spend more time learning Wing-Chun from my Master at the Bamboo Forest Wing-Chun Academy. For the last 2 years or so, I have been learning the art of Wing-Chun in the lineage of Grand Masters Ip Man and Ho Kam Ming. My Sifu is a man named Kiet Pham. He is, to my mind, a fully-realized master of Chinese wushu. The subtlety, sophistication, and beauty of the Wing-Chun I have learned from him has created a feeling of deep awe and respect in me for both this man and the art he teaches. It has been a singular privilege. I strongly strongly suggest that if any of you have even the slightest interest in learning a martial art, that you go and learn from this man. There is a lot of superficial martial arts out there. Finding a master who understands the inner art of timing and control, who has full comprehension of touching hands and energy is very rare indeed. Master Kiet Pham is such a person. It has been an honour to learn from this man and I am saddened that I did not have the time to learn more from him.

Everyone here is friendly and teaches you the traditional way of wing chun. I was horrible at first and am still not the best but there's been a significant improvement in both my skills and overall life.

Strictly speaking Wing Chun, Master Pham has especially deep insight into the art. He has completed Wing Chun from two different lineages, and was personally groomed and authorized to instruct in Wing Chun, by Grandmaster Ho Kam Ming. Wing Chun is a standing art. If I had to describe HKM Wing Chun in 3 words..... it is based on control, explosive power and softness. Master Pham's training heavily focuses on Jip Sau... the art of contact and control opponent's balance and ability to move. Another aspect of the art he focuses on is based on receiving and controling of incoming forces. The attacker will feel like they are striking into a vacuum that draws in their incoming force. This vaccum is either unbeknownst to attacker or known. If known and the attacker's force is committed, and Wing Chun practitioner has intercepted and 'received' the incoming force using proper control and timing, it is impossible to withdraw while being sucked in. This is Wing Chun's approach to incoming force. The softer this can be done without sacrificing Wing Chun structure, the more difficult it is for the opponent to counter. By the end of the motion the attacker will find their balance is compromised and under the control of the wing chun practitioner. This is where the art is found in the details. When I learned Master Pham taught these sorts of detail, my interest into the Chinese Martial arts was reborn and reinvigorated. I have never looked back. Even having been a student of mixed martial arts, and still consider myself one, I see Wing Chun as a foundational art, which can integrate with and complement other arts. Master Pham's approach teaches traditional Ho Kam Ming Wing Chun. When a student is ready, he also teaches an integrated approach to combat, using other aspects of Chinese martial arts that includes submission based. Highly recommend making an appointment to visit Master Pham when you are looking seriously to study Ho Kam Ming Wing Chun.
