We just left our first dentist visit for my 23 month old son. It was the WORSE experience ever. I typically do not write reviews but I have to express this experience: 1. We waited for over 1 hour & 15 min to even get into to our scheduled appointment exam room including arriving 25 minutes early to complete paperwork. 2. When we finally got into the treatment room with Dr. Mickey and the hygienist, my son was walking around the room, figuring out his surrounding in a new environment. He was told by the dentist to not touch anything because he would contaminate items. When we addressed these comments with Dr. Mickey, he discussed that there aren’t any dentist offices that wouldn’t say the same thing or would have a child proofed room. We explained that it should be understood of appropriate child development expectations for a 23 month old toddler at a dental visit, especially their 1st dental visit ever. 3. We also inquired what age he recommended that a child should have his first dental appointment. He stated right after 12 months (1 year old). We AGAIN emphasized our child’s age so expected a pediatric dentist office to have appropriate expectations including room setup. We also stated we did not want our son to be traumatized. 4. We were told to lay our son down on the large, regular sized chair, that was not even a size to fit a toddler (which could be overwhelming for the toddler himself) and we were told to hold his hands and hips. 5. A large bib/napkin was placed on his chest that he naturally took off and he was starred at by the dental staff at like he was doing something wrong. We were doing everything we could to make our child comfortable, the staff were not even say words of encouragement to soothe him. 6. The room- there were blue walls, yellow cabinets, and 1 canvas picture of a single giraffe on the wall, a sticker and prize box at the conclusion of the appointment. However, for a pediatric dentist room, we expected it to be child friendly such as possibly more items on the wall or in the room, pictures or items on the ceiling to for the child to focus on or even music or other sounds in the room. It was completely silent. We had to put our own music on to attempt to help calm our child. 7. When it was time for the exam, Dr. Mickey (finally) attempted to engage with our child by calling the mirror tool a monkey to before putting it in his mouth. As expected, our child began screaming and crying as this unknown tool is being forced in his mouth while the dentist is attempting to pry his mouth open with his hand. Not to mention, during the new patient paperwork we had to complete a form saying we agreed to use different tools to assist the child mouth being held open, hold child down if necessary, etc. None of these items were used. 8. During the exam, the light was shining in our child’s eyes. I had to ask if they had glasses for children. Dr. Mickey stated they did but no action was taken to get them for our child. I had to request a total of 3 times for glasses to be provided for my child to possibly help my child stay calm and prevent the light from shining in his eyes. The first solution Dr. Mickey offered was just to move the light to focus only on his mouth. We still requested the glasses 2x and finally the hygienist was instructed to retrieve the glasses for our child. 9. There were particles, from the exam that were floating in our son’s mouth. We requested (several times) for the particles to be suctioned out. Instead, we were ignored and Dr. Mickey then stated he was almost complete. My child was still screaming and crying. At the conclusion, after continuously having my request ignored. I inquired if they use the suctioning tool for children this age. He stated they did and did not provide further explanation as to why they did not use this with my child, even after being requested.

The dentist is terrible, and will suggest you do something, but if you kid is scared at all during procedure, he will stop and just say take them to a hospital. Do not go here unless you foresee your child never needing anything more than a cleaning.
