I have been to various dentists in State College due to my dental insurance changing. Kotary Detar participates with my new insurance so I went there. I found Dr Kotary very patient and thorough in his new patient exam and Melody the hygienist cleaned my teeth cleaner than anyone I had previously seen in other offices. I don't get some of these reviews. Water will occasionally splash on your face. Also X-rays are necessary every so often so they can see if cavities are forming, that is what Good dentists do . I learned a long time ago if you have any complaints what your insurance covers then you should talk to your human resource dept not your dentist. He doesn't control that. FYI no one forced any products on me during my visit. I definitely will recommend this practice. Caring, thoughtful professionals.

Just came back from the worst experience I have ever had for dental cleaning. The hygienist was talking to someone else and not looking at my mouth when she used the ultrasonic to clean the deposits! She sprayed water outside my mouth a couple of times, and let it rip to the back of my head without cleaning it. She is more concerned in asking me do extra services, like X-rays and so on, than doing the cleaning well. This is not the first time I have a bad cleaning experience in this place. The time before this one another hygienists was also more concerned into selling me mouthwashes than cleaning my teeth. I strongly do not recommend this place.

The facility is clean and inviting and the doctors are professional and knowledgeable. However, after initially informing me that they accepted my insurance company (Guardian), I found over time that this was not entirely the case. Over the last few years I ended up paying partially or entirely out-of-pocket for a large number of (supposedly covered) cleanings, exams, and gum surgery. As I mentioned before, the expertise of the doctors and much of the staff is exemplary but unexpected bills have caused me to look elsewhere for my dental needs.

I've been going to dentists all my life. The last 5 years I have been going here and I've finally decided to move on. I feel like they are more interested in pushing products and services which are going to require out-of-pocket costs than my overall dental health. When I tried to do a review on demand force which gives them awesome ratings, I had to call a number. I'm guessing this is something that allows them to screen. I'm not the only person that I know that has had this experience. Even when I tried to get my records released and transferred, I had the run around. They said they would send me an email. That didn't come. Then I had to call again. The person rushed through the information, like I should know it. Beware of this practice. Definitely look around and ask others before being trapped here.

I've been using this office for the past 6 years, and BAR NONE, they are the best! They are always friendly, efficient, and the procedures are always virtually painless. I highly recommend this dental practice.
