I loved Ruby James! She did a great job with my hair, was very knowledgable, listened to what I wanted, offered her professional opinion and also shed some light on how to get the hair I wanted. She didn't pressure me to do/buy anything I didn't want to. It was also VERY reasonably priced! I will definitely be going back and referring my friends. I did full highlights, cut, style, and bought shampoo! Great experience!

I had a great experience at Ruby James Salon. I am new to town and came across RJS when I purchased a Groupon. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the salon situated in a convenient part of Uptown on Oak Lawn Avenue AND I didn't have a problem finding a parking spot in the back. Upon entering the building, Ruby was very polite, friendly, and a pleasure to work with. She listened to what I was hoping for and gently made her own professional suggestions when I inquired. Even though I was hesitant to make any major changes (I've had the same cut for 10 years) I decided to go with her advice and walked out with a gorgeous new haircut and smile. Her years of experience and easy going nature made for a very positive experience!

I used a groupon to see Ruby. While discussing what I type of cut I was looking for, Ruby made her suggestions which were pretty much the opposite of mine. I took her word for it since I'm not the professional. After my shampoo Ruby answered the phone and was on it for about 5 minutes while I just sat there with my hair dripping wet. During that time I looked around to see the salon was disheveled and hair hadn't been cleaned up. I wish I had walked out then. During my cut Ruby answered her phone once again and almost attempted to cut my hair while on the phone...luckily whoever was on the other line hung up. My groupon was for a cut, blow dry and style, but Ruby said my hair was "too long" and she would have to charge me and extra $20 to do the blow dry and style. So I walked out with the wet hair, went home to style it, and hated it. I had to get my hair re-cut a week later.

This was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Though she claims to have been in business for over 25 years, she couldn't understand how my dyed hair could have grown out in the past year. It wasn't until she took her measuring tool to my head that her gross misunderstanding of inches was revealed. Thank god she didn't cut my hair! I walked out after she "mistakenly" didn't leave enough time for the cut and color details I had requested - though we had spoken on the phone twice at length about it. And then, upon realizing her "mistake" insisted that I pay more than the price we had agreed on. If that's not terrible customer service I don't know what is. If YOU make a mistake, try and fix it. Don't apologize, hike up the prices and insist thats all you can do. And then, if that's not bad enough, she begins texting me on my personal phone and harassing me! Never, ever again. Ever.
