James used to cut my hair since I moved in the area, he offer a very good service and he is really professional

I've been to James twice... Third time definitely won't be the charm at this hair dresser. To preface this review I always show my dressers a picture of what I'm trying to achieve so there is no confusion. First time was a simple cleanup after my hair dresser was off on vacation. I thought James was tentative and overall was impressed with the care. Never got to really test his skills given it was just a simple cleanup on an already established style. Sufficed to say though the experience was good enough to make me think about coming back again. Second time around was during the holidays while my usually dresser was off. This time I was changing my style, not dramatically mind you...enough that you'd think a $25 per cut hair dresser operating his own establishment can accomplish in his sleep. Well this was not just a sleep it was a nightmare of a cut. He could not accomplish a simple fade, it was from a 1 to a 3 with no transition, he cut more off the sides in order to achieve the style, and completely rushed the cut. After mentioning issues and how I'd like it fixed, he pushed back hard indicating I can't achieve the style that I wanted yet and need to wait. At that point I let it go and the next day went to another barber that salvaged the cut to match what I was looking for. Never again here... These ratings are way too overrated tbh...

I always get a great cut here

I've been going to James Hair Salon for over 8 years. The owner, James, is very experienced and quite fast. I can have a wash, cut and style in just 15 - 20 minutes. I highly recommend.

[UPDATE - 03/DEC/2018] ... It has taken 4 days for James to reach out to me personally regarding last week's incident. It's a shame it took a negative (public) review for him to choose to reconnect. It was clear he only cared about his side of things. He insisted that this review is unfair as I forgot to mention this was my second missed appointment (since 2015). On the day I missed the appointment, not only did I want to reschedule paying him the $25 + the usual 20% tip, but also compensating him for lost business (an additional $25 + 20%). My budgets are tight being a student with a part-time job, but regardless I was okay with it because two values I care about most are LOYALTY and ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY. These are two values that were put to the test this past weekend - and James disappointed. With regards to loyalty, he threw the relationship out the window by ghosting on his loyal customer and assuming everything's personal and all about him. With regards to accepting responsibility, he refused to believe he could have handled this situation better as a business owner. In short, if you want a hairstylist who gives you good value for the money, by all means go see this guy. If you're someone who values the relationship someone has with their barber/hairstylist BEYOND the business side of things, you'll be supremely disappointed. I am now a customer with Throne Barbershop on nearby Yonge/Gerrard. They are significantly pricier, but the staff there are absolutely top notch. I don't mind paying a premium on loyalty and rewarding great customer service, and that person/business will have that until they prove otherwise ... as was the case with James Hair Salon. Shame. –––––––––––––– I've been with James for what feels like maybe 3-4 years; I was a repeat customer because of the great service he's extended towards me. Everytime I come in, he remembers me by name and he knows what haircut I usually get. One time, I forgot my wallet and he told me it's okay and to just come in at my earliest convenience to pay him back (I went back in the same afternoon). Here's where things went south. The past couple months have been particularly tough on me and so my sleep took a hit. Consequently, I missed out appointment. Rather than call me to see if I'm okay and perhaps to reschedule, he COMPLETELY ghosted on me. I tried him back THREE times throughout the day even leaving a voicemail apologizing for my missed appointment and hoping he can call me back to reschedule. He NEVER got back to me. All these years of loyalty (I was planning to move back to Mississauga and even commuting all the way back to downtown just to see him in the future), and this is the treatment I get. Of course, I went to a new place to get my haircut since I needed one so badly. Honestly, I want to give him the benefit of the doubt that something happened in his life, but as it stands ... I'm deeply disappointed with what happened.
