My experience at Bamboo Kung Fu has been very rewarding. Since I joined the school about a year ago, I feel revitalized, not only physically but also mentally. Sifu Kin is very dedicated and knowledgeable, he is always making sure that all students are improving themselves. The class structure is well balanced between Kung Fu based body conditioning exercises and real application of the art. If you are looking for a place to train traditional martial arts, this is the place! I'm so glad I joined Bamboo.

I have been training at bamboo for about 3 years now, and it has been a wonderful time since. To this day I still remember my first class! Training is very focused on physical conditioning, and practical techniques. Its no-nonsense training here at Bamboo, you really feel like you are training yourself to be better. Its always insightful listening to Master Sze explain the concepts involved in martial arts. The more I train at it, the more I realize there are deeper levels to what I'm doing. It just adds to the experience to know I'm not only getting better at doing something, but I'm understanding it at a deeper level too.

This location is really small, and can barely fit 6-7 at a time. There's no changeroom at all, you have to change in a dirty washroom and leave your clothes on the floor by the studio... Agree with some of the other reviews, where classes got cancelled without much prior notice and you only realize this at the door. The classes themselves are OK, fairly dynamic

I was recovering from 3 spinal injuries and two broken wrists when I decided to enroll at Bamboo Kung Fu. Let me tell you, the patience Sifu Kin Sze has for all his students is amazing. He will find a way for you to practice a technique no matter what state you are in, without causing more harm to yourself. In fact, I find Sifu knows your strengths and utilizes them to your advantage. He also finds time to take care of his pupils and check in on their healing process. I have a background in Kalaripayattu and Taekwondo, so I expected the learning curve wouldn’t be too hard but Choy Li Fut is very much it’s own style and takes some time to get used to. I thought since Kung Fu originates from Kalaripayattu I would find some common ground and while there are some, they are definitely more like distant cousins rather than siblings, if you know what I mean? Be realistic with yourself when coming in, machismo in what you’ve previously done will do you no good. Luckily the staff are very gentle, exceptionally kind and will take their time to practice with you. The more advanced students will come over to help you and share some pointers as well! No snooty people or bad attitudes here! So go in and expect a very inviting and comfortable space. As someone with PTSD I feel like Bamboo Kung Fu has also helped give me confidence to start walking around on my own again and feel safe. Obviously it won’t cure it, but it makes a difference. You will also walk away with self defence, knowledge on the human body, a stronger you, theory on different styles of martial arts, a great support system, and chances to give back to the community (we always get opportunities to help out with the Lion dance performances!). What are you waiting for? Enroll now!

When I came to Bamboo Kung Fu it was at a low point in my life. I was recovering from an emotionally and potentially physically abusive relationship. My confidence was buried under layers of self doubt, but I was determined to pull myself up and out of my depression. I began training and I started feeling better about myself. I enjoyed being challenged by the new skills I was learning. I have a dance background so I've always been attracted to the grace and elegance of Kung Fu and I didn't want to go to the gym to mindlessly lift weights and run on a treadmill. Initially I thought my reasons for joining Bamboo Kung Fu were simply about getting in shape, but after training for a year and I half I have come to the realization that I've been drawn to Bamboo Kung Fu from a deeper internal need for security and inherent safety. I've become more and more interested in learning as much as I can and the main reason for this is Sifu Kin Sze. He has a way of inspiring his students to do their best and to keep aspiring to new levels of skill. Traditional Choi Li Fut kung fu is not easy to learn. It takes a lot of practice and repetition to just to get a basic physical understanding of the body mechanics necessary to execute proper technique. Sifu Kin Sze emphasizes the fundamentals of the art form in every class no matter the skill level of the student. Application of the technique through sparring is also an important part of the class. It allows the student to get a firm grasp on how to actually use the skills they have learned. In my personal experience, practicing kung fu not only helps the body to realize its potential, but clears the mind of excess chatter, anxiety, and stress. It creates self confidence and the desire to become the best person one can be. Bamboo Kung Fu is a community of like minded individuals who are connected through their practice of Choi Li Fut. Sifu Kin Sze has created a family environment in which all are welcome. I am very grateful to him for helping me in my personal growth, not only physically, but also mentally and spiritually.
