this is one of the best martial arts schools in the USA since 1955. Kate Grey's negative review it is fake. You can not "Sandbag" a tournament that is open to all rank and style of grappling. some styles have no belt system catch wrestling for example. as for the rules The Hayashi tournament itself has very few "illegal moves" slamming someone who has pulled guard, heel hooks and neck cranks are examples. Hayashi is not a "BJJ" grappling school so if someone is use to IBJJF rules and gets Judo slammed or caught in a Sambo leg knot or a highside outside leglock at Hayashi's that is on the fighter and the school they come from not the tournament's host.

I went to a competition today (as a spectator for the gym in my city) in which the directors were "sandbagging" the competitors from other gyms, which means that they put a white belt and a brown belt in the same match. The ref was completely unprofessional before the match; the people at the table with the timer put 3 minutes on the clock (the usual amount of time allotted per round) and the ref told them to make it 4 minutes instead, stating that "this'll only take a minute," essentially saying that the white belt had no chance. During the competition, this same ref basically chose to let illegal moves slide but only those that had been made by certain competitors (the ones from the Hayashi Dojo), as the ref was also from Hayashi. This was particularly dangerous when the aforementioned brown belt was doing a "neck crank" on the white, a move that none of the outside gyms had been allowed to do. The Hayashi kids were being given special treatment; the outside gyms had been treated unfairly. Later on in the competition, one of the fighters had passed out, and the ref, being as incompetent as he was, didn't see it for 5 seconds, giving the unconscious kids opponent the chance to continue to choke him even while he lay on the floor, eyes shut, unmoving. This gym started the competition late, had been nothing but incompetent and unprofessional, and was putting the fighters in danger by choosing to let the fight continue when it should have been stopped. I do not recommend anyone going to their dojo for a competition.

I have 2 boys who attended classes here. They love it. Couldn't have found a better place. Also the staff is friendly and easy to work with.

This is my favorite martial arts academy, not only did I learn how to defend myself, but my teachers taught me how to socialize, a very warm aurora emits from this heartwarming academy. I am truly honored to have attended such a great place.
