Very handy store and the older gentleman who works there looooooves to talk about ... history, and well, everything. They have real futons here, really neat washcloths, martial-arts stuff, new and used books on Japanese culture in general, the most mind-blowing origami things made by a local, etc etc ETC. Whether you need a pair of sandals, a hapi coat or a daruma, this place has got it.

I love this place! Just brought very small things but the owner and shop keeper had packed them in an amazingly elegant way with origami for me! I learned that in Kyoto, stores pack carefully to show how much they appreciate the recipient. I think here they do the same! It is not only a 100 years old store but is piece of Japanese spirit in the Bay Area -- because the owners!

The gentleman working when we came in was so helpful and patient. This is a huge store with a balance of handmade trinkets to breathtaking tea sets. I highly suggest popping in and checking out their unique stock. I couldn't leave without some adorable chop sticks and beautiful origami paper!

Take a stroll in the original San Jose Japantown from the 60's here. The store retained the authentic feeling of the Japanese immigrants living in the area with supplies from the mother land. You can find things from martial arts items to kimono accessories. Origami folding papers to traditional dining plates. I can easily spend hours in here.

When you grow up Japanese American and have traveled to Japan, you just have to love stores like this. In fact, the entire San Jose Japantown was a fascinating society of Japanese people who are probably into 4th and 5th Generations, but still embracing and carrying on Japanese life and tradition. This store sold your standard Asian Bruce Lee themed stuff. Kung Fu shoes and dragon robes were everywhere. However, when the layers were peeled back, a lot of rare pieces were seen. traditional pottery, tea sets, wood carvings and drapes. Kimonos were hidden in the corner. Lacquered bowls and chopsticks. Traditional wood made toys. Probably was my favorite stop in Japan Town of San Jose. I would insist that anyone visiting the area stop into this store and soak in the American Japanese Generational culture that lives here.
