UPDATE 3/29/2018: I am still attending Systema St. Louis and everything stated before not only holds true, but has improved. It is a fantastic school that is constantly updating the curriculum based on current events/trends, while still focusing on staying calm under pressure and working as efficiently as possible. ___________________________________________________________________ UPDATE 1/28/2014: 2 years later and I am still attending the St. Louis Combat Institute. Since my last review, the school has grown tremendously and is constantly getting better. The instructors and students are what set the St. Louis Combat Institute apart and keep me coming back. My advice is to come try out a class with an open mind. The goal is to learn about yourself, how you function under stress, your limitations/weaknesses, and ultimately develop the ability to stay calm during chaos/violence. I look forward to many more great years, Bryan. _____________________________________________________________________ ORIGINAL: I have been attending the St. Louis Combat Institute for roughly 4 months now, and I can say that it has been nothing less than exceptional. By combining Israeli Krav Maga and Russian Systema, this institute has set itself apart from the competition. Both of these disciplines are focused on survival but with different approaches that will provide a complete skill set for self defense. Joe and Jennifer are fantastic instructors, creating a safe yet realistic environment. Their enthusiasm can be seen in the eagerness of their students to learn. They not only cover the physical aspects of an attack but also the psychology driving the attack. This provides a unique insight from a self defense perspective. Keep up the great work, Bryan

Great instructors. They teach the concept to better my chances in a real life situation. This is a totally different application from the 4 other martial arts I have taken (judo, aikido, ju-jitsu, and karate). They way it is taught here (concept) utilizes techniques from other sport martial arts that were designed for the mat and makes them lethal in the real world. Real punches, kicks, elbows, blocks, chokes, knives and guns; what more could I ask for. One last thing: I would put my money on Jennifer over 95% of the guys I have trained with in 12 years.

RMA I recommend this school 100%. This is now my thrid six month term at Stl Combat. Both instructors are the most friendly ,intellegent, knowledgeable people that you could ever meet. If you ask either one of them a question in regards to training they have an answer for you. Joe the head instructor, has so much knowledge and experience being a Detective for the SLMPD and former Marine. In terms of self defense you can't get any better than someone who deals with this on a daily basis. Joe incorporates so much of his knowledge from the PD and Marines into the training. He knows what is currently going on out in the streets, what criminals are doing out there and what will be effective in terms of self defense. They continue to change things up to make training interesting. They have some great and very famous people in for seminars. Such as Sonny Puzikas for Systema the Russina Martail Art. Sonny is a big part of the Hollywood community and has been on several television shows. Sonny's seminar was one of the best I have attended in years. They will be having Max Franz Sonny's friend, in for a seminar in March. He has also been only television and is an expert in Systema and former Russian Special Forces. Jennifer is very friendly, her class is one also that you don't wan to miss. I lost nearly 20 IBS my first few weeks attending her class. What I love so much about this school is that they always continue to surprise me. They are often bringing in new classes or new forms of martial arts. I attended the Grand Opening of their new school in June. I found out they have the backing of making high officials for their school. The Mayor of St Louis City, The Governor of Missouri, Several State senators, City Alderman and the SLMPD. That day there were also news crews there filming the event for the evening news. I agree and the Mayor stated that day. "Joe is a great asset to the City of St Louis as a member of the SLMPD and teaching self defense to the citizen's of The City of St Louis". Just a completely awesome place to be.

I have been attending classes at the St. Louis Combat Institute for 4 months now and all I can say is that what they teach there will save your life. I have studied MMA, jiu jitsu, judo and aikido, but what they teach there is unlike anything else. Their martial art IS MARTIAL ART, not some fake fitness style or unreal monkey kung fu. But be advised, this is about realistic self preservation. If you cannot handle the fact that you may have to actually hurt someone who is trying to harm you or your family, then you may want to sit on the sidelines and be a victim of society. Check them out and prepare yourself for whatever life throws at you.
