I have tried several martial arts places around the capital district. This is the best. All the teachers meet you at your pace and make and teach a scientific approach to self defense and jkd.

Wise, friendly and welcoming instructors. A strong focus on both fitness and technique. Practical applications and great facilities. New and seasoned martial artist both welcome and both learn. They also offer a free session to test the waters and the hours are convenient for those who haven't much time. Highly recommended for all those seeking to get in shape, build character and learn how to fight for both self-defense and sport.

I've been attending Albany Jeet Kune Do since 2011. Despite studying CS and math in college (and taking sword classes more recently), Albany JKD is the only class that has ever challenged me. There is so much to learn that I wind up taking copious notes and practicing regularly outside of class, just so that I won't forget half of it. (Though please note that more casual students still get a lot out of the class, and enjoy it. Everyone learns at their own pace.) I appreciate the way sifu Steve pushes me, and feel like I am getting an amazing value in learning for the time and money spent. Sifu Steve and the people whom he has trained to be instructors are great martial artists, and also really good people, who care about their students' learning and well being. The art itself is extremely practical: I feel that it is less about fighting than it is about ending a fight. Jeet Kune Do is for personal safety, and so never sacrifices efficiency for showmanship or sport. If you're interested, come on down and see for yourself, because it's friggin' awesome.
