My wife bought earrings at Dack's Jewellers and after wearing them a day they really irritated her ears. When she tried to exchange the earrings Dack's told her she couldn't as they had been worn. At the time of purchase she was not informed of the store policy on returning worn earrings, although the bill stated items could be exchanged within 10 days of purchase. According to Dack's exchanging worn earrings is not allowed due to health regulations; they also told us that they had no means to sterilize jewelry that has been worn. Where are they getting this info? In speaking to the Health Unit I was told there is no such regulation and a little more research found that most major jewellers allow earrings, worn or not, to be returned (in speaking to a jeweller that buys/sells estate jewelry they told me that they sterilize all used earrings prior to being offered for sale). Dack's did tell us that if the earrings had not been worn they would exchange them. How does Dack's know earrings have not been worn before they were returned - certainly not by looking at the earrings in the box? If a customer is not being honest are Dack's unknowingly putting worn earrings back up for sale? I hope not as they felt this was a health risk. If they aren't sure, maybe Dack's should sterilize all earrings when they are brought back or not allow any to be returned. Dacks has every right to establish and enforce their own return/exchange policy, but they need to be crystal clear about it when a customer is making a purchase, not when they are trying to make an exchange. And if they are concerned about the health risks of worn earrings, then none should be exchanged. Now my wife has earrings she can't wear, exchange or return. I support local business as much as I can, but based on their overbearing return policy and poor customer service and I don't plan on buying from Dacks at any point in the future.
