A traditional Swiss Chalet with little surprise. I was trying to use a coupon Swiss Chalet sent out to household and was told it is not valid for the weekend. Of course, the fine print there is so small that anyone with normal eye sight would miss. The waitresses here were all in a big hurry to finish your meal, clean up your table and I was even handed with a credit card machine without asking for my bill! Terrible experience for this Swiss Chalet Franchise and my trip to Ottawa has been so far fine except for this surprise?

Terrible dining experience. Place smells like a dead animal has been stored in the front entrance for weeks. Also, the entire restaurant is old and dirty, I mean ... really dirty. I'm attaching a couple of pics of our booth. The server wasn't too bad - but no courtesy at all. The food wasn't tasty, it was mediocre at best. French fries were disgusting. This was a great restaurant a few years ago - but not sure what changed that made this restaurant go downhill. Avoid.

Recommend as take out only! Stopped in for quick lunch early afternoon. First booth seated at had food on seating. Table next to it had traces of food. We told the waitress and moved to another table. 20 minutes later another couple seated at the original booth... still dirty. Waitress did nothing. Looking around we noticed seating torn, lights with dead bulbs and food on floors. On bright side food was hot and tasty. Why we recommend this location as Take Out Only

Have you ever wondered what a grocery store takeout chicken would taste like if you accidentally left it under the heat lamp all night? Look no further! We decided to try takeout from Swiss Chalet for mothers day. It was my wife's first mother's day as a mom, and the first she'd been able to spend with her own mother in 8 years. We figured that since there are more Swiss Chalets around than you can shake a stick at, surely the food must be good. How naive youthful thinking can be! We had the whole rotisserie chicken, poutine, vegetable medley, and Caesar salad. The chicken review I feel is covered above. As for the poutine, I have a sneaking suspicion it was made for someone who ordered it at lunch time, cancelled their order last minute, and then it made its way to our plates. The cheese was a solid hard lump covering about 20% of the fries by the time we got it. The Caesar salad I suspect was purchased from the grocery store last minute; just lettuce with the standard grocery store packet of croutons and packet of Caesar salad dressing. The vegetable medley was just raw carrots, raw celery, and raw broccoli. In fairness to them, the menu doesn't specify that they are actually cooked vegetables, so I guess I can't fault them on that one. My father in law said it best; they'd be embarrassed to serve this food on an airplane, let alone a restaurant.

Went in January with reservations for supper. party of 13 adults and two young children. Seated on time. Ambience: Homey but room temperature cold. Server friendly. Water, beer, coffee ordered and served. Took a long time for the waiter to come back to take orders. Took a long time for the orders to arrive so the children were hungry and forced to wait almost 40 minutes(another table that arrived after we did got their orders deliver before we did) Place was cold as evidenced by so many people wearing coats an parkas inside (Either the heat was not turned up -could feel a cool breeze from the ceiling ducts, or as the server said it was because of the deep freeze and the windows-mentioned that people were wearing coats inside and by the time we left, lo and behold it was warmer. Food: I had the Chicken Club Wrap with a Caesar as the side & a coffee. 4 others had the Hot Chicken Sandwich with Fries. Others had the Quarter Chicken Dinner, and one had the Beef & Ribs Dinner. Everybody seemed to enjoy their meals. Time To Pay: It took a long time to (a) Get the cheques & (b) to be able to pay. Appears that the servers are so busy trying to seat new customers and take their order that they are forced to leave you sitting for some time before you can pay and get out of there. Synopsis: I'd only go back there out of necessity such as for a large family celebration due to the long waits, for order, food delivery, and payment. Not the server's fault-have too few working too many tables.
