I am a true spicy lover. This post is sole for spiciness rating. The service was very good and food came out quick. However I ordered them the Tan Tan Men Deluxe and requested extra spicy. The spicy level from a range of 1 - 10 and 10 being real spicy. It was a 2 :( . I had to added the dried chili and chili oil to bring the spice level up to a 3.

My staple here is the tan tan men deluxe - I prefer the broth and finer execution over at Yuraku but this place dishes out a lot of pork (three ways!) in one big bowl. I also really like their jar jar men (cold noodles) on a hot day - tasty, refreshing. Ambiance is very cool here, with jazzy music and decor.

If you love ramen, you need to go here. They have calamari balls, that a sauce with shaved smoked fish on top. You must eat here, matter of fact stop reading reviews and go there now. Thank me later.

Tonkatsu broth was nice and "clean", but the pork flavour could be slightly stronger. Meat was not great. Overall, there are better ramen places in San Mateo. I would go back for zero waiting time and close proximity to the cinema. Note, the whole place had an unpleasant smell (from making the broth??), please get the ventilation fan sorted...

I'm not a huge ramen guy but the wife loves Asian food so when we were in San Mateo last weekend I thought Himawari would be a good place to try as it has good reviews. The ramen menu is quite extensive if not a bit daunting. I decided to try the Tan Tan Men deluxe as I am not a fan of dark meat chicken and I like spicy food. The Tan Tan Men is served with sliced pork and chunks of pork belly. The food arrived fairly quickly but was a tad disappointing. The broth was not very spicy and the noodles seemed to be the same as what you would get from a 50 cent bag of ramen from the store. The pork belly was tasty though. The waitress was friendly but never really came around after the food was served. The bottom line is that my wife was disappointed and ended up wishing we had gone to Ban Chan which just so happens to be around the corner.
