I had afternoon tea service at the Lockwood and was surprised to be seated in the lobby area by the bar. While the space is absolutely beautiful, the constant traffic of people walking by to register or explore the hotel was more distracting than the leisurely tea service I was expecting. The tower with sandwiches, scones and dessert selection was a nice variety of flavors, but not something I would come back to order again. The lemon curd was fantastic however and they did brings us a second helping. I rate it a solid 3 stars and if you enjoy people watching, this may just be the perfect tea service for you.

They had a Chicago Marathon pasta special here. $14 for bottomless pasta. Surprisingly, the pasta was very fresh and the bolognese pasta was extremely delicious. The chicken pasta / shrimp pasta was not nearly as good. Ended up having 2 full plates of it - I got super full and left very satisfied. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is classy. It was rather dark and quite, but it set a nice setting for a hotel restaurant. I'd definitely visit this place again, even though the menu was a once-a-year special.

Had breakfast here twice. Great service. Great food. Breakfast buffet could have offered a few more food items, so just ordered a la carte.

Bizarre and offensive: being corrected by the bar tender on how to pronounce “Chardonnay”. But it did not stop there, when ordering a Chardonnay on the menu I was told they did not sell the wine I requested, until I pointed at it on the menu. I am in my 40’s and have never experienced such service in Chicago. At worst someone would try to help even if they had trouble understanding you. I think it is reasonable to expect a bar tender to know what wines they serve and how to prounounce them. And at least be friendly and helpful rather than correcting a customer.
