Some family friends of ours are visiting all the way from New Mexico and we stopped here on our way to the Outer Banks as we were showing them around the area. We were talking up this place and how wonderful the food was. However, our whole table sat in stunned silence as 3 plates of very healthy portions were put in front of the 3 white women of the table and the sad, single piece of rejected anemic-looking fish with NO SIDES was placed in front of our very obviously not-from-around here Native American friend from New Mexico. I'm not saying someone behind the counter decided they didn't like him, but it sure did seem that way. It was embarrassing to have talked up this restaurant to be proved liars and for the ugly side of the South to show so obviously. I hope for the sake of all involved that the workers realize that tourist season is going to start next week, and people from all over the country and the world will be traveling to the Outer Banks and sitting down at those tables and will be judging Southern Hospitality and even the USA on interactions such as this. What a shame.

The customer service is very poor and not professional at all. I've been there many times and employees are joking, talking about non-business stuff or complaining about having to work. I called in an order tonight and a female answered the phone, said "Golden Skillet hold a minute" and immediately put me on hold for 2 minutes. When she came back to the phone, I listened to chit chat for about 45 seconds before she said anything. She said "Golden skillet" I asked if they had any specials and she said meat loaf. I asked for a three piece chicken dinner with white meat, she was talking to someone else the entire time. Then she stopped taking and about 30 seconds later, it appeared that she hung up. I called back and asked why did she hang up after I placed my order, she said we got disconnected somehow. She asked me what did I want and I told her again. She asked me what sides did I want and I asked her what was available. She only told me about 2 available vegetables. I asked if that was all they had and she was talking to someone else again. After a while she asked me what sides did I want. I told her coleslaw and asked her again if they had anything else beside the 2 options she had mentioned. She started talking to someone else again. After a while, she asked me what sides did I want. I repeated my self again and she told me of about 5 additional options. So I told her coleslaw and string beans. So them she ask me if I wanted a 2 or 3 piece dinner. I said 3. She said do you want dark or white meat. I told her that i had told her already but she seemed to keep getting distracted. Them she repeated my order. This is not the first time I've had conversations like this with an employee there.

Yummy, best meals ever, hot and fresh. Love the fish and chips, fried chicken, shrimp and great fries. No trip to the beach is complete without our Golden Skillet stop!

Picked up food for a family member. They loved it so much. I got me a plate on second trip. It was great and service was great. Will recommend to friends coming down.

If you love livers and gizzards this is the place. I had some of the better liver and gizzards I have ever eat, I'm all about some chicken "byproducts". The chicken is equally good too.
