My fiancee and I went to Applebee's after receiving a gift card for her birthday as a present.
Our waiter talked us out of the bowl of French Onion Soup, saying the cup is the same size for a couple bucks less. Not sure what I disliked more: that Applebee's would charge $2 more for the same sized bowl, or that our waiter was fishing for tips by badmouthing the place we were eating. Either way, it left a bad impression. Halfway through our meal, however, he was replaced by a woman who I think must have been the manager; she was so friendly, accommodating, expedient, thoughtful and was even able to anticipate a couple of things before we asked. She truly did an excellent job and I was impressed!
The food was about as good as you could expect at Applebee's: nothing to write home about, but it wasn't bad. I have had worse at other Applebee's, that's for sure!
Overall, our first waiter was a slimeball and the meal itself was only Okay, but the experience was completely rescued by the second person who helped us. I would definitely go to this Applebee's again over others, if I received another Applebee's gift card.
