I've eaten here a couple of times. The first time I was waiting a while for my food. The more recent time I had a fantastic experience, but I feel like that is not typical for this restaurant, so I am hesitant to give a 5 star review.
I think it's worth noting that if you go at a busy time when they are short-staffed (which is almost any time you are likely to go there), you will be waiting a while for your food, and maybe even waiting to be seated. If you want to have a good experience, go towards the end of the Sunday night rush, they are actually staffed properly at that time, it seems.
The quality of the food here is better than a lot of places, and their burgers are (when done correctly) about on par with Red Robin and for about the same price.
Here is the rundown of my last visit:
First of all, our server was excellent, I don't know if that's typical for this location, (I think we got lucky.) Server refilled drinks frequently, brought food out at exactly the right times. As soon as we finished our appetizer, bam, there was the main course. The tortillas with spinach dip are excellent. Had 'Cheese-steak' Burger for main course, I highly recommend it. I ordered the burger pink in the middle and the cook did a great job with my burger, but unfortunately, burned my gf's burger. Burger came with a side of fries, which were some of the best I've had in a long time.
We dropped the extra money on dessert, which was excellent. If you are looking for a restaurant that has great desserts, this is probably your place. Dessert was high-quality and a very large portion.
I will say that we were seated directly underneath an air vent which was drawing air directly from outside when it was 39 degrees out. Needless to say, I was not amused by this. I don't blame the server as much as I blame whoever is in charge of their thermostat.
Ambiance-wise, despite the restaurant not being very busy, every time I go in here there is always at least one rowdy, raucous party somewhere near where I am seated. The people three booths behind us were being so loud it was as if I was eating in a sports bar. I wish I knew what joke was told at their table because it must've been damn funny; they were laughing loud enough to wake the dead.
Price-wise, it is about $70 after tip for two people to eat here if you split an appetizer and both get dessert, and about the same for three people to eat with no desserts or appetizers. If you have the money and the appetite, I definitely recommend trying the appetizers and desserts.
I don't eat out often, so if I am going to drop $70 on one meal, I have the expectation of a quiet atmosphere, comfort, and an excellent dining experience. So far, I haven't seen it at a chain restaurant, and Friday's is no exception. Eating out always seems to involve compromise (sadly) and it is very rare to have anything approaching an ideal experience. However, if you are looking for a shorter wait time than Olive Garden and lower prices than the $50/plate Bonefish Grill, then this place may in fact be the lesser of two evils if you are planning a night out.
