Just took a friend for a birthday dinner. The food was OUTSTANDING--and the service great! Last night went to "Fish by Jose Andres"--wonderful as well. But honestly, my seafood dish--lobster, grilled scallops, and grilled scallops over risotto--beat the food at Jose Andres place (no offense to Jose--love that beautiful man, lol!). The grilled scallops and shrimp were cooked PERFECTLY, seafood seemed super fresh, the best meal I've had in quite some time. My friends had pork dishes--tried them also--absolutely delicious. They offered us a glass of sparkling wine on the house, and brought my friend a lovely creme brulee w/ candle gratis at end of meal. Desserts and cappuccino were nice. I am looking forward to trying more of the menu. Old Town is so cute, this place is right at the center of it, I won't mind the drive from Alexandria. Food quality is easily as good as the Chart House in Alexandria. I'd call the prices moderate--no way you'll find any Italian (with a Portuguese accent😉) as good as this in DC or Alexandria unless you're paying twice as much or more. Thank you for a memorable evening!

Unfortunately, this restaurant has changed so much since it's beginning days. The restaurant is quite dimly lit, and also a little cold. The speed and quality of service was great. However, my family and I were not impressed at their attempt to run a new menu. We each had to modify an item on the menu to get anything that we would even eat. Seen here, in my photos on this review, is the 8oz. Prime Filet with mashed potatoes and broccoli, from other items seen on the menu. Sadly, my meal was luke-warm and the mashed potatoes had large bits of material in them, instead of being finely mashed. It was a decent meal, but it could have been better. The calamari was great, and the food was cooked wonderfully. Again, the cook and the service was excellent. Sadly, I know the restaurant has no control over its customers, but our experience here was made even more unenthusiastic by a woman, who was apparently a doctor from what I could hear of the conversation, who was almost shouting in the restaurant to her friends not 3-feet across the table from her. Sadly, the grandeur of this restaurant has fallen down in our minds. We most likely will not be back, unless the menu is heavily altered to serve more of a lesser extravagant and unique food, and just serves something that everyone can enjoy without having to get a pieced together meal; not everyone wants a crazy assortment of flavors never tried before, some of us just want a well-cooked traditional meal.

Just a really fancy looking restuarant that's expensive for the sake of being expensive. Food tasted really good don't appreciate paying an arm and a leg to have my dish "dressed up". Sorry for the rude review but nothing gets me more fired up then a place like this.
