About a month, I had my passport photos photos taken here and since then, they have been rejected by Passport Canada three separate times due to incorrect technical dimensions.
When I called the store to explain the rejection and point out the incorrect sizing, the owner immediately became abrasive, standoffish and arrogant and told me I was wrong:
He openly admitted that the store has been fully aware of this technical sizing issue for months because multiple other customers have called to complain about the exact same thing.
He claimed that because of the complaints, they taped a "warning sign" on the front door, and that it was my fault for not reading it. When asked he didn't verbally mention this to be before taking the photos or payment, he stated it was "not his responsibility."
He then went on at length saying that it was the federal government's website fault for rejecting the photos saying that they work sometimes, refused to issue a refund for a failed product, and told me to go ahead with a credit card chargeback so he could fight it.
So here we are. It is entirely unacceptable to sell a service you know is potentially defective, pocket the money, and then blame the customer for not reading a fine-print sign on the door. In the past, I've brushed off this operator's abrasive attitude as him just having a bad day, but on the call, I found him to be completely dismissive and his attempts to gaslight the situation were worthy of taking the time to write all of this out.
Also, for what it's worth, the photos were taken with a very basic DSLR camera, without tripod, using the on-board flash from an absurdly high and unflattering angle. I know they're just government photos but wow, they looked absolutely heinous.
