The most incredible place with the most amazing people. I spent my summers growing up there from 2005-2017 and it really is just an amazing place. Words cannot describe, go check it out for yourself.

I hold my summer memories at Ak-O-Mak very close to my heart. The staff and campers are the most supportive and down to earth people I've met. I went to 2 other summer camps before I found Ak-O-Mak, and none of them compared. As a non-competitive swimmer the coaches were understanding and happy to adjust swim practice to match my abilities, still pushing me to my maximum potential. This camp is truly a family, and I miss each and everyone of them everyday!

Camp Ak-O-Mak is honestly one of my favourite places in the whole world. When I am not at camp all I am doing is thinking and dreaming about camp. And when I am at camp I am just wishing for it to never end. This place is my home, where I have found myself and some of my closest friends who live half way around the world, but we have created this bond that will be forever. This camp is special and one of a kind. Where else in the world are you going to find a group of strong, enthusiastic, hard working girls that part take in such rigorous activities. Ak-O-Mak is very much a triathlon and swimming camp. Where girls will swim miles a day because they want too! Or compete in their first triathlon with the worlds biggest smile plastered to their face as a team of camps "cheerleaders" proudly cheers them on on the slide lines. This is a camp where you explore and push yourself to the limits. A casual race at Ak-O-Mak could be a 10km run. I tell my friends that back at home and they think I am completely insane. But here, you are immersed in the spirit of trying your best no matter how long it takes you, and pushing yourself to the point where running alongside your best friends is fun. I never thought I would say " Hey lets swim 3 miles, and you know what lets swim 3 miles back too, because why not its a nice day!" As I have grown over the last five years at Ak-O-Mak I have transitioned from camper to councillor. This switch was more then worth it. Taking the opportunities, skills, and fun memories I had made I was able to bring them over to my campers. Creating a positive environment and a role model to look up too. One of the proudest days as a councillor was when my camper woke me up at 6am to practice her swimming as she was slower. I would sit by the docks edge and give her tips on how to fix her stroke. A few days later she swam 500m and back. And then a mile. And now she is a competitive swimmer and has never been happier, and I am proud to say I made this impact in her life. Another memory was when my 10 Year old campers wanted to win at the regatta. They were a group of four in a C4 boat. Whenever they had the chance they would get together to practice and early in the mornings you could hear their voices echoing across the water as the counted their strokes. And you know what? They won and I have never been so proud of my Cabin 6 campers! As you can see Camp Ak-O-Mak is a place to grow and try sports or actives you have never tried before. A place where you can make new friends and support each other in the difficult challenges you face. I would highly recommend anyone to try Ak-O-Mak because once you come you'll never want to leave.

I went to Ak-O-Mak two summers in a row and I can honestly say that no other experience in my life has shaped me more as a person. I learned how to be a dedicated, motivated athlete through the amazing staff and sports facilities as well as how to be a kind, caring, empathetic individual through the times spent with the other girls. Ak-O-Mak provides an amazingly warm, friendly and encouraging environment, allowing female athletes to grow and explore their full potential. Some of my fondest memories are the ones I spent swimming in the lake in the morning, running with my friends, or even just spending time together in the cabins. I could not recommend this camp enough. You don't need to be a professional athlete, you just need to have an open mind and a willingness to try something new and you are perfect for Ak-O-Mak.
