A bit of back story in point form as it wont all fit written out.
-I accidentally burnt my cat after she jumped under my arm while holding a pot.
-They wanted to sedate her to shave her and do kidney test to make sure she could be put under.
-They tried to send me home in what I think was an attempt to get an over night fee. The vet back tracked and said she could see her right away as we were the only ones there.
-after shaving her could not see swelling and mistook ruptured blister for old scar.
-tired to sell me a cone so my cat wouldn't lick her nose.
-sold me meds when she thought there was nothing wrong.
I live 15 minutes away and her wounds were visible to me upon arriving home. I have pictures.
-if she would have touched the "scar" she would have felt it was an open wound and it was damp! But she thought it was a scar.
Letter to the vet college.
Hello I have heard nothing back about resolving my experience at the vet college. I'm still bothered by it all and again do not think a quality or thorough service or exam was provided.
I doubt you care about word of mouth or the reputation of the vet college as you are the only after hours clinic, so many people have no choice but to go there in desperate situations. Again though, this was a completly inadequate service experience and I truley feel I'd have been just as well off throwing my money down the toilet.
It has now been over two weeks with no resolution. I will continue to share my experience with the people in my life who have animals and who mention possibly taking their animals to the vet college. Most of the people I have talked to about this have shared similar experiences with this clinic (including a vet tech from another clinic saying they hear that a lot about the vet college).
You are supposed to be a caring group of people who should put the animal before how much money you can suck out of someone by selling them tests and things they don't need (ie a cone so my cat can't lick it scraped nose). I would expect them to use their education and common sense to assess these animals, not mistake a ruptured blister for a scar and be completely oblivious the the light but visual swollen spots on my cats back. That's why you go to school for years and why I take my animal to you. If I saw it the vet should have too, and she should have if she saw the "scar" (actual blister that had ruptured) at that point those patches were on my cat but for whatever reason both things were over looked. I don't want to reiterate my experience, but the fact that the vet could not see the wounds that were visible enough to be mistaken for a scar really makes me question their ability to doctor animals. It really does. It's just unacceptable.
The appointment should have been simple. I told them the issue and gave them the information down to where the water had fallen on my kitty and they still failed to see her burns and mistook them for a scar... all the test they wanted to run including kidney tests for what should have been a basic exam and home care is just ridiculous. I just can't see past the experience and am still very upset and feel jerked around. I hate feeling this way and I hate that this is the opinion and feelings I will hold towards the clinic. I love animals and I would do anything for my animals and any animal, and now I'm left with these feeling towards people who should feel and do the same.
It's a shame.
