Shawn's hip hop workout class is literally changing my life. I've just started my 4th term in a row with Shawn and I can't imagine getting through my week without it - I'm addicted!! The workout is solid and the dance is pure joy. Shawn's infectious humour and positivity make the entire 90 minutes so much FUN, and I love the fact that we dance with the same group every week - I've met some really awesome people in Shawn's class - no divas, just real people who love great music, want to move, and all seem to thrive given the non-judgmental vibe that Shawn creates. Mondays have become my favourite day of the week because of this class, and I cannot stop talking about it to my friends.

BDX dance studio is an amazing place to make new friends and get into the world of dance. I personally never took any dance classes before bdx and never really had any idea what I was getting myself into. I was scared and I was very self conscious , but after taking the first class.my fears were gone. The instructors at bdx are so friendly and patient and positive that it makes dancing fun and it's an amazing work out. Shawn is always pushing me to be better and that's just one of his amazing qualities. The other students in class are also so friendly and fun. I highly recommend anyone who is a beginner to take bdx dance classes!

I did enjoy my time there..up until a class where there were troubles with getting the music to play. Of course totally understandable that there will be system errors, its pretty unavoidable - but the teacher spent 30 minutes of the one hour class trying to fix it. It was crazy! We literally stood there swinging our arms around while she tried to figure it out. For half the class! She didn't extend the class longer than an extra ten minutes (likely because there was another class waiting outside) and there was no talk of making up time that was all already paid for and totally wasted. I would travel at least forty minutes EACH WAY to take that class, so I left feeling disappointed...like I had thrown my money down the drain (both on that class and at least 15 bucks on public transportation.) As well as an evening in a busy life. I get that music in a dance class is extremely important, but so is adaptability and professionalism. Plus, it was a tap class. Learning how to tap to music is vital but so are the mechanics of it...it may be more advanced, I don't know (rhythmic tap) but I felt like she could have moved on from the issue and given us a full (or fuller) lesson regardless. It is was an unfortunate experience for me and I didn't return.

The hip hop classes are my favourite part of the week! All the students are fun and vary from beginners to people taking it for a year+ so you will make friends and still take classes with them afterwards. Ages also vary from mid-20s to late-30s/early 40s and it creates a fun environment where I don't feel super old! All the teachers are fantastic, create a fun dance environment, and super talented. The building is close to Yonge subway (across from the Canadian Tire at Yonge and Church) so really easy to get to from work. Every class is different and they also ask us what songs we want to dance to so you can keep enrolling in the program and keep on learning. Def worth trying out if you ever wanted to take hip hop lessons!! If you don't want to commit right away, they often have fun drop-in classes for $20 for the people who can't commit to doing it every week. I did one before enrolling and I am happy I did.
