Came from out of town in the spring to try and hike this with our little guy, realized quickly that wasn't possible with the ice still heavily on the trail. Tried again todaywithout the little guy, and made the incredible 6km hike. Little did we know it brings you out wayyyyyyy down the other road 😂 because it was getting dark we opted to take the road back. We definitely came Ill prepared. I would not recommend small children as the trail becomes pretty steep at points. Look out spots are absolutely breath taking and worth every bit of sweat to get there!

Great place for all ages. There's a small, easy trail for little ones and a more challenging one for the older ones. Lots of places for picnicking too...

Beautiful place to visit. I would highly recommend it. The rails are really nice as well.

The Hawk Lake Log Chute is the only remaining wooden log chute in Ontario. Originally built in 1861, it was used until the 1930's. It was last restored in the mid 2000's but has been damaged by falling rocks since then. The dam that feeds it was rebuilt in concrete in the late 1920's but has been largely decommissioned. There's a short and easy hiking trail along the river with great views of the chute and dam. Crossing the dam provides access to the Crests of Kennisis hiking trail, a challenging trail that leads to other hiking trails beyond. Definitely visit to see a bit of Ontario's industrial history - there are many educational displays - and enjoy the outdoors. Picnic tables and basic restroom facilities are available.

Restored historical log chute. Definitely worth a stop. Some interesting history!
