Want your glasses adjusted? If so, AVOID the Pearle Vision at the Marlborough location at all cost!
Exactly three weeks ago, I was at Marlborough Mall and realized my glasses needed some adjustment. I came across Pearle Vision in Marlborough Mall and asked the lady inside if she could kindly adjust my glasses. I would like to point out, I did not purchase my glasses (frames or lenses) at Pearle and I am well aware that if the place were to break my glasses, I will not be compensated. Having mentioned that, I recently got new glasses and I noticed my left lens was closer to my left to the point my eyelashes were rubbing against it every time I blinked. WITHOUT asking and my consent, she popped out the left lens. All I could hear was, and this is not an exaggeration, was cracking and popping sounds and at the same time she told me “this is normal.” I have been wearing glasses for 16 years and purchased glasses from many places and I have never had anyone pop my lens to in order to adjust my glasses. But I remained calm, and I told myself, this woman knows what she is doing. She really struggled to put my lens back for a few good minutes and all I could hear was crackling sounds. I was nervously sitting there worried she might break my glasses. After not being able to put my lens back, she told me “I’ll be right back” and went into the back room. Few minutes later, she comes back out with the lens back on and asks me to try on the glasses and after a few more tweaks of bending the temples and nose piece I was on my way as the glasses fitted me well. Now this is where the problem for me starts. On my way home, I started to see white rim lines on my left lens while being outdoors and when I got home. I took a closer look at my lens and noticed that there was a gap between the lens and frame both on the left top and bottom corner. She had shaved/re-shaped/sanded (correct me on the terminology) my lens!!! Not to mention the white residue left on the side of the rim lens when she had popped it. I was more than furious! I called another Pearle Vision from a different location (Sunridge Mall) because I wanted to confirm if this was a normal practice. The lady from the Sunridge Mall location ensured me this was not allowed or necessary. I then drove to the Sunridge location and I showed the two store opticians my glasses. Both of them mentioned there was a difference between the left and right lens and the left lens looked like it has been re-shaped/shaved! She suggested I call the store manager named Laurie from the Marlborough location to see if she can find a solution or if she could fix it. At this point, I was more than frustrated and shaking my head as to what she can do. But here comes the next surprise. I called the Marlborough location and asked for Laurie the store manager. As a start to explain the incident, she goes “Oh, I remember you!” The store optician who butchered my lens was ALSO the store manager! I straight out asked her “did you shave my lens?!”. I could tell she did not want to use the same wording as she happily answered “well, I had to re-shape your lens to fit it back into the frames…”. I interrupted and asked her again, “did you shave my lens?!” She finally answered “yes, I did.” I was really furious and asked her “why did you do that?! I never gave you permission to do that nor did you even ask me. It’s very noticeable and I can see it in the corner my eye!”. All she could say was, “well bring it over and let me see what I can do”. At this point, I didn’t not bother going back, I was extremely frustrated that the new designer glasses I got this week was now ruined. I called place where I had purchased my glasses, told them what happened and fortunately for me, I was granted new lenses. Why am I still complaining, this woman should not be anywhere near an optical place. She took it upon herself to shave my new lens without my permission or consent! I reported this incident to their corporate office and have yet to hear a reply.
