They need to show more respect to their patients and their families.

Jan 20, 2018
My mother has been at this facility for roughly 5 years. I believe this facility is terrible. My mother is very difficult to deal with but that does not give the staff a reason to neglect her care. There are annual meetings to discuss my mother's care and during the 4th annual meeting, they weren't even aware that she has dentures even though I have said it at every single meeting. They do not take care of her oral care AT ALL. She had a stroke and is paralyzed on her right side (dominant side). Do they expect her to do this herself?! She literally has not brushed her own teeth during her entire stay at this facility. Absolutely disgusting. During this past meeting, I asked how often her dentures were being cleaned... they shrugged. Not only that, although I was being a little short with them (for obvious reasons) the way they speak to me is completely unacceptable. As well, a PSW had berated me because my mom has eczema all over her body and complained that my mom itches and that she has to bathe her and basically told me I need to figure it out. It is THEIR job to take care of her. It is THEIR job to figure out the solutions. When I suggest solutions, they either look at me like I'm crazy, dismiss it, or make excuses why they can't do such things. She has sores/eczema from sitting in her wheelchair. Their theory is that it gets worse because she's sitting in a dirty diaper. WHY is she sitting in a diaper full of urine?! Their excuse: we think she can't feel it when she has soiled her diaper. Their solution: a catheter. Why don't they just change her damn diaper when it needs to be changed. Don't do it every hour, CHECK IT if you need to! They allow her to skip meals on a continuous basis. When I asked how many meals she skips, they said none. This is complete BS and they said that it only happens when I visit and tried to say she skips meals because she wants to visit me. BS! For the first four years I was visiting weekly and each time, I KNEW she was skipping at least one meal, if not two a day. They allow her to not drink water. When I address this issue, they say they place a jug of water in front of her and if she doesn't want to drink it, that's her choice. They say they can't force her but this is just ridiculous. Between the lack of oral care and them allowing her not to hydrate, I wouldn't doubt it if my mother dies of some sort of heart disease. A few months ago, her gold ring went missing and nothing was done about it. They never brought it up again. Said it probably went down the drain when they were bathing her. Every resident gets a monthly allowance of roughly $130. My mother has not seen a single cent since she's been at this facility. When I address this, they say it goes towards her creams and clothing and such. Every other resident receives this stuff AND their monthly allowance. They tell me she has to go down to the front desk and request the allowance. My mother cannot speak. She was declared incompetent. When I asked if I could request it, they said no. So essentially, anything my mother wants or needs besides what she is given, comes out of MY pocket. TODAY, Tuesday November 15th, 2016, I went to use the washroom and found a COCKROACH. This is the first thing I said during the annual meeting and they said NOTHING. The only one who seemed to acknowledge this was the woman at the front desk in the lobby. This is not only absolutely disgusting, it puts family members at risk of bringing the roaches home when they come to visit their loved ones. I was in the nursing program and received first-hand knowledge from my professors who are nurses themselves, and they agree that the care that my mother is receiving is absolutely unacceptable and the nurses are NOT giving proper care. I'm not sure what the passing grade was when these nurses were in school, but currently it is 60%. No wonder why there are nurses doing their jobs half-assed. If I could give no stars, I would. Totally displeased with the care my mother receives. -11 months since their response on google and still nothing. -1 year, nothing.
