Terrible - and not BBB accredited

Entered into a 'design only' agreement with Aquarian in September 2019. I paid a little over $10,000. We discussed the budget and proceeded. A little over a year later the estimate arrived and it was almost twice what we had originally discussed. There were lots of problems after this. Reviewing the estimate, I saw the cost for new cabinets was around $52k. I asked them to get a competitive quotation and they refused. The construction drawings had dimension errors on them, sent an email and asked them to correct it, no response. These were right off the RPR supplied a year earlier. The building permit was rejected by the City because the design did not meet zoning requirements, sent an email and asked Aquarian to fix them, no response. And it went on and on, issues with asbestos removal, blank checks written into the scope of the contract, more issues than I have the space to list them all. At the end Aquarian sent me an email and informed me that they were ‘closing my file’ due to ‘

I would like to leave this review to advise people what a disappointing experience was, dealing with this company. They came in to my house to finalize renovation plan and take measurements, and first thing what they said was "where is the check?" right at the door, and I was quite surprised to hear this, instead of saying "hello, or "good morning", etc. It was comment on their poor communication/social skills, and unprofessional attitude. At the end, there was estimate twice the initial estimation; grossly over budget they come up with. I do not understand, they come up with initial budget - 200k , and after they doubled the initial budget to 400k; not including basement (it's bungalow house). I'm just speechless! How is that possible?! Also, through this development process, they would not communicate much as we would like to... There was a lack of communication from team, big time. Moreover, in my opinion, a cost we paid for design plan, it's not worth what we've paid for; again, grossly over budget for banal/ plain design. There was not much creativity or major adjustment/modification made in renovation/design plan. Only I can say that we are glad that we did not move forward with actual renovation, I would have regretted if I spent my money on this company, which we all work very hard for it. I'm not here to cover/pay their retirement, or buy their 'dream' car.

I sent an email and asked for a refund, no response. And this is the big problem, you pay a company to perform some function, they decide to not complete the contract but keep the money anyways. This pretty much sums up Aquarian. Filed a complaint with the BBB, apparently Aquarian couldn’t even be bothered to respond to them. Imagine if you hire this company and you have problems, they will just disappear like they did with me. I suggest if you want to hire a renovation firm, look elsewhere.

We have worked along side Aquarian for a number of years and the product that this company puts out is extremely high quality and second to none. The staff is knowledgeable, talented and good at everything they do. They will communicate through the whole process keeping the homeowner up to date at all times. If you are looking for a high quality custom home they are the company you want to talk to.

I contacted Aquarian Renovations to enquire about budget pricing for an upcoming renovation. I was looking for a rough sqft pricing for a project in the future. Marsha went out of her way to provide me with the information I was looking for even though I had no intentions of doing the renovation anytime soon. She was great and very professional.
