The audiologist that I spoke to name Jim, tried to scare me into buying hearing aids by telling me that with my severe hearing loss, if I didn't get them, it would lead to me having Alzheimers and/or early onset dementia. (I've had hearing loss for 55 years) He also told me that if I didn't get hearing aids right away, my brain would shut down where my hearing was concerned and then the hearing loss would be irrevocable because that part of my brain wouldn't function any longer, so if I waited any length of time to make my decision, it would just be too late (again, I've been dealing with hearing loss for 50 years and it has actually improved since last Jan). Interestingly enough, when cochlear implants are inserted in people who have been deaf from birth, they then can then hear, so both of his statements were totally fabricated in order to sell hearing aids. When I asked if one hearing aid would be sufficient, Jim told me again that the brain would not function correctly and that it was a MUST to have two hearing aids. When I asked about price, Jim told me they started at $2400, but I would need the ones that were almost $7000. HUH? I spoke to my ENT, (who btw does have MD behind his name) and my ENT DR told me that all of those statements that Jim told me were inherently FALSE. I called Jim back to ask him why he told me all of that when none of it was true, and he stated that my DR was wrong and that we were simply discussing semantics. REALLY??? Don't go here. They just want to sell you a pair of $7000 hearing aids when you can get them online for less than a $1000 programmed to your hearing test results. This place is a ripoff!
