This review is for the JKD / Kali classes at PSDTA. Simply put, this is THE place to train for JKD (jeet kune do) and Inosanto Kali. Not. Even. Close. Sifu Brenda King is extremely knowledgeable and is a senior full instructor in both arts under Progressive Fighting Systems (PFS), among her other impressive credentials. It's not just her mad skills and succinct yet clear explanation on techniques that draw you in, however; this woman has serious heart! You can feel her passion for the martial arts along with her desire to get her students to level up and keep learning. I'm quite impressed by her commitment to cross-training to the point of bringing in other instructors for seminars. Furthermore, with her it's not about ego (and having previously trained under another JKD instructor who was all about ego, that was such a refreshing and welcome change!) - she demos on all her students and spars with her students. She is truly "seeking the path" of continuous improvement and growth in the martial arts. With regards to the training environment, it is very welcoming and supportive. Her open-mindedness and emphasis in training safely are manifested by her students as well. It's all about helping your training partners learn and upping your own skills in the process. Classes are about 1.5 hours long but it almost always feels much shorter than that; I've been able to get a good workout each and every time I've stepped on the mat. I strongly encourage anyone remotely interested in learning JKD and Kali to stop by and try out a class! I couldn't wait to sign up after my first one.

Best cardio fitness and martial arts place combined! I attend the HIIT and kickboxing classes in the morning Tuesday Thursday and Saturday from 8:30-10 I love it! I have gotten in the best shape of my life here, and I have lost 80lbs in four months!

Best place in the north bay to learn self defense, I highly recommend AKJDS to everyone of all ages, beginner or seasoned pro.

Sensei Armenak ROCKS!!!! Not only is he an awesome coach/teacher...he is a great role model for our growing boys!!! ....PETALUMAS Z-ULTIMATE STUDIO truly is the best of the best for entering into the world of martial arts & self defense. My 13yr old son is truly embracing & enjoying all the aspects of instruction... The posipositself esteem, the awareness of mind/body connection, discovering & developing fitness as he is learning about posture, balance, strikes, blocks, toning, strength, focus... Etc...and most importantly..BY SETTING & ACHIEVING GOALS HE IS PROUD OF HIMSELF AGAIN. HE IS REGAINING CONFIDENCE & SELF WORTH!!! At the start of the school year my sons self esteem/self worth/ desire to live....was at his breaking point...from many years of suffering through being teased, bullied, &/or rejected from peers at his school and saying that he hated life! It scared me beyond belief and I acted on instinct seeking out support for him....but I knew he needed something that would lift him up and remind him of how awesome and smart & worthy he is. I followed my gut instinct after asking the Universe to guide me to a person, place or activity that could help my son find his way back to loving himself & loving life! Within days...I found Armenak &The Z-Ultimate booth at the farmers market that was the best day of 2016!!! I was so excited because my "MOMSTINCT" felt that it was the right fit...because I had walked past the dojo a few times in the prior months on my way to the gym & had been drawn to it...but never made it in the door...lol...but EVERYTHING HAS A TIME, PLACE,& PURPOSE and im extremely grateful because it has been a wonderful experience to watch as my sons spirit begins to glow with joy as he becomes stronger & more balanced with in himself....benefiting from each & every private lesson & group class. SENSEI & Z-ULTIMATE. .. TOTALLY ROCKS!!!!!👍👊✌👏💪

This is such a wonderful place. I cannot say enough good things about everyone here and the tools with which they are providing our children to succeed. They are learning physical movements, yes, but even more than that, they are learning life skills to help them as they grow. Self-confidence, respect, self-control, and focus, just to name a few. KUK SOOL!

Great exercise, fun and music playing! Helped me to increase my flexibility and stamina. Especially enjoy the friendships I gained by becoming a part of this community.

Our family does not look at Taekwondo as another sport for our kids; we look at it as another school…a school of life skills that will serve our children not just for a few seasons but for the rest of their lives. No other sport has offered our kids the degree of physical, social, emotional and psychological growth as Taekwondo. We feel truly blessed to have found Schafer’s ATA. Mr. Schafer is an exception teacher and inspirational human being. The command he has over his students is a delicate balance of firmness with high expectations along with gentle molding and deep devotion. He is heavily invested in his students not just at Taekwondo but in their lives outside of school, as well. It is common to hear about how he attended someone’s birthday party, graduation, or visited someone who was ill. He makes his self available to parents, too. One of our kids was having trouble at school and Mr. Schafer was right there, supporting our family with getting our child back on track. He is genuine in his passion for Taekwondo and the amount of dedication he has for his school as well as his students is evident every day we attend class! Mr. Schafer has an exceptional staff who share his passion for Taekwondo and contribute to the school’s supportive family atmosphere. Mr. Schafer and his school are also a strong force in the community. He drives his students make their own contributions with mandatory community service requirements as a part of their belt advancements, as well as holding several community fundraisers through his school each year. During these tough economic times, it is important to feel your money will be well spent, and there is no greater investment in life than own our children. It has been 5 ½ years since we first walked into Schafer’s ATA and met Mr. Schafer for the first time. What started as a professional welcoming handshake has evolved into personal congratulatory embraces! My oldest son started as a Tiny Tiger and just last week received his black belt. It is a moment that will be etched in my mind forever! That night, more than any other night, I realized, we have gained not only life skills for our children, but we have gained lifetime friendships through our extended family with the Schafers and the other families at Schafer’s ATA.
