Just started going here and I'm having a lot of fun so far. Paul is extremely patient and great at breaking down complex moves so that even a novice can understand. Everyone I've met so far has been extremely kind and encouraging. Initially, I was intimidated to try jiu jitsu because I have never done anything like this before. So glad a friend recommended 1-Up Jiu Jitsu.

Sensei Davis and staff are great with kids and adults of all ages.. We brought our 12 year old son here about 4 years ago to learn self defense. He's now close to testing for his Jr. Black belt and has been taught much more than karate including discipline, self confidence and respect for all people. I would highly recommend this dojo for you or any member of your family.

I researched all of the places in the Akron area that offered Brazilian jiu-jitsu before deciding on JW. Definitely the right choice. I was looking for discipline, follow through, something to learn, and something to help me deal with ptsd-to give me back my power,at a time life had gotten pretty boring and stale for me. I found that at JW BJJ and sooooo much more. A great group of friends, and an amazing support system. Jason takes time to break things down in a way everyone can understand and works with you when you struggle. I've tried a couple other gyms in the area and I'd say this is definitely the better gym for women and would be excited to see more show up.

I played three years of college football and was still eating like I was before I graduated. I like Asian sun becuase adults can take advantage of Taekwondo as well as Cardio Kickboxing for one rate and both are a great workout! I lost weight, learned something, and was able to find a competitve outlet after football was over. Great school!
True Balance Martial Arts

I began training at True Balnce Martial Arts about 8 months ago. I am a transfer black belt from another dojang and I found the environment extremely pleasant right from the start. The instruction is very friendly and every class that I attend I get an awesome workout. Since I have been training here I have made many friends. The core curriculum is Tae Kwon Do however, you will get a taste of other martial arts such as Hapkido, and Aikido, etc. This school is affiliated with the WTF (World TaekwonDo Federation), the Ji Do Kwan (located in South Korea), the Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquaters in Korea), and also the United States Taekwondo Grandmaster Society. They also offer Aikido classes. I would recomend this school for people of all ages and experience since they have many classes that cater to all age groups and experience levels. - Jeff

Both of my children love going to Hoy's. Mr. Hoy is so good with them, making learning specific techniques fun. My son had tried other martial arts centers and didn't like them, but both he and his sister have enjoyed Hoy's right from the first day!

5 Elements Soo Bahk Do
1575 Columbia Rd, Westlake, Ohio, 44145, United States
I have been training with my kids at 5 Elements SBD since 2009. We like the fact that it is a well rounded martial arts system with emphasis on spiritual growth along with physical and mental development. As an adult, it keeps me active and in shape, and it helps with raising my kids by having them practice confidence, discipline and respect. If you are not familiar with martial arts at all and you are wondering if Soo Bahk Do is for you: you will learn a lot of fighting with your legs (korean taekwondo like), you learn hard techniques (japanese karate like) as well as soft ones (some chinese kung fu animal styles), lots of self defense, joint locks, sparring, and occasionally some traditional weapons. A great place to be!
