Excellent teacher to student ratio. My 10 year old daughter loves the specialty classes of STEAM, Art, Spanish, and Theatre. Walking distance to downtown Fairfax which is a close knit community. My daughter has grown tremendously in her confidence socially and academically.

What I like best about Greenwood School when thinking about longer term education for my young children is the progressive approach to learning. They take the long view. They focus on a love of learning, of giving the child academic stimulation coupled with an understanding of where that child is in his/her own development. The teachers at this school are the most engaging, thoughtful and knowledgable I've seen when it comes to teaching the whole child - not teaching to be tested. With all of the stress that comes with the responsibility of educating our children, I find it heartening that Greenwood delves deep into the actual learning, not the assessment part of learning.
And it starts early. Greenwood School is by far the best preschool in Mill Valley. My children have thrived in the warm, inviting classroom. They literally come home singing about their day and teach me so I can sing with them. Personally, I found it odd at first to be a grown up singing a song about hand washing, but the ease with which my children navigate what they have to do with what they want to do is astounding. And if you have little ones, you know what I mean. Much like how the upper grade teachers assess where their class is developmentally and choose a curriculum that is best supported by that (i.e. during puberty and pre-puberty teaching about revolutions and fighting authority!) the preschool's "curriculum" similarly meets the needs of my little guys.
So not only do my young kids get the nurturing environment of learning about how to integrate into schooling (which is a huge part of their early life) but I also get information on how to navigate the developmental milestones they face. Greenwood continues to develop this partnership with the parents as the children go through the grades.
And I must say the community of Greenwood is great. The parent body is informed and engaged. It's like having a village to lean on when you need it and since we don't have immediate family readily available, knowing that my fellow parents at the school are there makes it easier.

Lick Wilmerding High School

ob noxi ous t u rds. i feel like this school insulted me. i wore a fuzzy argyle sweater and baggy cordoroy benneton pants to the interview and was told by an administration "you don't care about what you wear. you are allowed to go to this school." I find the architecture to be an eyesore, although it is modern. i do not care for the feng shui and the sound of the 280 very loud although it opens up the gota kula. i do not like how they treated my friend Knute who was interfacing with a vending machine here. I do not like what my friend dana said about wanting to go to this d um b school because they offer jewelry making, mind you she was not referring to fine jewelry of craftsmanship but more like large beads on a wire. i remember the preschool riverendale that offered a form of jewelry making in the late 1970s where the metal oxides were baked onto a metal base such as a canadian leaf stamp out and the colors would blend artistically. i think this Lick Wilmerding the whole joke is the name of the school. and this school turned my good friends into immeniable snobs who had nothing to be snobby about other than the price tag of this school. an alma matter alone enough is not enough of a bond, since people often randomly decide which schools to apply to and which to accept the invitation and attend.
it's no ego boost, reviewers claiming to be parents. sounds like you need therapy. in actuality, you all know this is a big joke and charade. get a joke and get a life. keep your toxic opinions to yourself. overall i do not have good memories from this school. i should have used my mind and kept up learning out of a book. this school even cramped my snarky humor that i'm in the process of getting back. i wonder also how the funds are allocated.

We should have supported our Kittredge School friends more. One of them was picking up golf balls at the park. We should have picked up more golf balls in the 1980s.

What a gem, this school! It produces a very well rounded child in an intimate K-8 experience. We have been here for 9 years, and our son is walking down the isle a creative thinker with the biggest heart. The school has well decorated accolades for their kindergarten teacher, and that success builds even through middle school. Great sports teams with lots of Bulldog pride keeps the kids well balanced in academia as well as athleticism. Lots of after school activities ( chess, culinary classes, chinese, spanish, guitar, etc ) make this an easy choice and the local community is very nurturing. It takes a village!
