This beautiful former mining town is right on the edge of the Banff national park. Very close to Banff it is the perfect choice for a less commercialised holiday. Fantastic facilities, great mountain trails for both hiking and mountain biking. You also have the world renowned Nordic Centre. Situated right on the beautiful Bow River, this town will not disappoint and is the perfect alternative to Banff. Overlooked by the fabulous Three Sisters this is a special place.
Rundle Forebay

A great place to go paddling (kayaking, canoeing or SUPing) with the family. If you follow the entire shoreline to the power plant and back the distance is under 5 km. Kayaking the loop with children (1 being towed and the other paddling) took 1.5 hours with several stops along the way to play in the water.
The reservoir is somewhat sheltered from the strong winds of the Bow Valley. (Our original plan for the day was to paddle Lac des Arcs, but the wind was causing white caps so we pressed on to Canmore to the calm waters of Rundle Forebay.)
